This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.As a Lunar Data Engineer, you are responsible for building the data infrastructure and pipelines that power analytics, AI agents, and operational dashboards helping Blue Origin build a road to the Moon. Within the Lunar business operations organization, we build relationships spanning from budget owners to technical design teams that cover the design, build, and operate lifecycle. Our team accelerates program operations by ensuring high-quality, accessible data enables both human decision-making and AI-powered automation across modern aerospace operations.

Ownership of data pipelines from source system through delivery to end users
Systems thinking - Understands how data flows through complex processes and designs for reliability and scale
Strong problem-solving - Debugs data quality issues, optimizes performance bottlenecks, and architects solutions for ambiguous requirements
Quality-first mindset - Implements automated testing, monitoring, and validation to ensure data reliability
Clear technical communication - Writes documentation that enables analysts, engineers, and AI systems to leverage our data products
Thrives in dynamic environments where new data sources and requirements emerge as Lunar programs evolve
Key Responsibilities:
Creates robust data pipelines to accelerate teams across engineering, supply chain, configuration management, production, and operations
Maintains Lunar’s Databricks environment including workspace configuration, implementing data pipeline best practices, and contributing to data governance
Designs data schemas optimized for data reporting, analytical tools, and AI/ML solutions
Manages data quality via validation, monitoring, and alerting to ensure reliable results
Partners with data users to understand requirements and create performant models
Contributes to data architecture and technical standards for the Lunar data platform
Minimum Qualifications:

2+ years data engineering experience building data pipelines using SQL and Python
Proficiency with Python for data processing (pandas, PySpark, or similar)
Experience with SQL optimization and working with large datasets
Experience with ETL/ELT and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Databricks Jobs)
Demonstrated ability to debug complex data issues and implement solutions independently
Demonstrated ability to implement data quality, testing, and validation practices
Experience working with customers to gather requirements and present data solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years building data pipelines with Databricks (especially Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional)
Experience with Databricks Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and workflows
Hands-on experience with Spark for large-scale data processing
Experience building data platforms that support AI/ML workloads
Proficiency with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Athena, Lambda)
Experience with CI/CD for data pipelines (GitLab CI, automated testing, deployment automation)
Experience with API development and integration for data access
Understanding of hierarchical and graph data structures common in engineering systems (Bill of Materials, requirements, production plans)
Exposure to LLM/AI agent architectures and their data infrastructure requirements
Domain knowledge in engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and/or aerospace
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $115,707.00 - $161,988.75Other site ranges may differ

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
