Leidos Defense Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer III (Linux) to support the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) U.S. National Data Center (US NDC). The US NDC operates a mission‑critical, high‑availability system within secure DoD environments supporting national security objectives.
This role focuses on system engineering, platform sustainment, cybersecurity compliance, and DevSecOps integration across Linux and Solaris environments. The selected candidate will support COTS application installation and lifecycle management, system hardening, patching, upgrades, and 24×7 operational troubleshooting across classified and unclassified infrastructures. This is an opportunity to directly support a critical national security mission while ensuring system resilience, cybersecurity compliance, and operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities:
Engineer, administer, and sustain enterprise Linux and Solaris systems supporting mission applications
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software in secure environments
Lead system patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation to maintain cybersecurity compliance
Implement and maintain system hardening in accordance with DISA STIGs, RMF controls, DoD cybersecurity policies, and Zero Trust architecture principles
Troubleshoot complex system, application, and infrastructure issues in a 24x7 mission environment, performing root-cause analysis and resolution
Develop and maintain automation scripts and configuration management solutions (i.e. Ansible) to improve system consistency, compliance, and deployment repeatability
Collaborate with software, database, network, and cybersecurity teams to ensure reliable system integration
Support deployment pipelines and DevSecOps practices for system and application releases
Maintain system documentation, configuration baselines, and operational procedures
Participate in on-call rotation and operational sustainment activities
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related disciple with 4+ years of related experience. Additional experience, training, or certifications may substitute for degree
U.S. citizen; Currently possessing an Active DoD Top Secret clearance and eligibility for Top Secret/SCI
Currently hold a DoD 8140 IAT level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Sec+)
Experience administering Linux (RHEL or equivalent) systems in enterprise environments
Experience installing, configuring, and upgrading COTS software applications
Direct experience managing systems with Red Hat Satellite
Experience developing and maintaining Ansible automation for configuration management
Familiarity with Linux system hardening and security compliance practices
Strong troubleshooting experience in complex, integrated systems
Experience with system patching, lifecycle management, and vulnerability remediation
Familiarity with DISA STIGs, RMF, and DoD cybersecurity, and Zero Trust acrhitecture compliance requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in DevSecOps environments and CI/CD pipeline integration
Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Bash, Python)
Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware or similar)
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes in a production environment
Experience supporting Oracle or other enterprise database environments
Experience modernizing legacy systems within secure environments
Experience supporting or administering Solaris systems
