Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) - Progressive Coronary Care Unit

Fairview Hospital’s Progressive Coronary Care Unit (PK2) is a telemetry unit focused on providing excellent, high-quality care to cardiac patients. Caregivers in this unit are highly engaged and maintain a wide knowledge base with a special emphasis on cardiothoracic surgery, dysrhythmia management, telemetry monitoring, and heart failure. By taking this opportunity, you will join a team that promotes continuing education and embodies the concepts of teamwork, communication, and collaboration to maximize patient outcomes and expectations. Caregivers can identify, develop, implement, and monitor interdisciplinary quality improvement processes to improve outcomes and more.    

 

A caregiver in this position works evenings, 3:00pm—11:30pm 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients. 

  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.  

  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. 

  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources. 

  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care. 

  • Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma or GED.  

  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role.  

  • Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • College degree.  

  • Microsoft Office experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
