What is the role?  

Working within the First Team Physical Performance Department, you will assist in the delivery of team & individual strength/power sessions to First Team players along with pre-training preparation & recovery strategies and optimising individual development programmes (IDPs).

What will you be doing?

You will plan and deliver strength and conditioning content and recovery & activation strategies to all fit and injured players, both within gym & pitch-based settings, along with helping to manage the physical condition of transitional players across the Professional Development Phase and First Team squads.

It is expected you will be highly capable of working within an interdisciplinary team of physical performance coaches, medical staff, and technical coaches to deliver optimal individualised physical performance programmes.

You will also assist with daily monitoring processes and the ongoing development of data science projects across the wider sports medicine & science department alongside generating data and providing insights to enhance player readiness, reduce injury risk and look for performance opportunities. All work will need to be presented clearly and concisely, ensuring it is well communicated to key stakeholders and you will need to be able to challenge processes and affect change.

Other duties include:

  • Willingness to work at home games and travel to away games along with attending training camps to support the preparation & recovery of the Men’s First Team. You will lead on the organisation & implementation of recovery strategies to optimise the readiness to perform.
  • Support the daily operation of all monitoring systems within the First Team to include logistics, setup and real-time feedback
  • Ensure analysis and reporting of feedback is accurate, prompt, statistically relevant and comparable throughout the age groups.
  • Complete ongoing internal and external research to ensure data collection and management within the club is at the cutting edge within the sporting industry and football.

Is this you?

Key qualifications required:

  • BSc in Sports Science or equivalent in experience.
  • UKSCA Accreditation or equivalent.

Key experience required:

  • Delivering strength and conditioning, injury prevention, pitch-based preparation & rehabilitation to group and individuals at an elite level
  • Using various GPS technologies within an elite sports setting.
  • Integrating performance data from a variety of sources e.g. forceplate, movement analysis, physiological testing.
  • Working as part of a successful multi-disciplinary team in a performance setting.

Key skills required:

  • Ability to record, interpret and present complicated data sets in a useable fashion.
  • Ability to use data to answer performance based questions.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
