A day in the life

The Director of IT Financial Management oversees IT financial operations, including budgeting, spend tracking, and strategic financial insights. This role involves preparing financial reports, collaborating with IT and business leaders, and ensuring financial accountability. The position requires expertise in accounting, financial analysis, and reporting in a technology context. The individual will explain IT expenses, recommend cost-saving measures, and manage key financial metrics. Occasional vendor management oversight is required, focusing on financial implications and contract negotiations. This position has a dotted line reporting into the CTO.

Key responsibilities include:

IT Financial Management:

  • Collaborate with the CTO to develop strategic financial plans and propose cost-saving solutions.
  • Guide IT leadership in financial decision-making and promote financial transparency.
  • Develop and improve processes for managing the IT budget, forecasts, and spending analysis.
  • Work closely with Accounting, Finance, and IT leadership to track spending, analyze variances, and report financial metrics.
  • Ensure financial accountability for technology spending across multiple IT projects and cost centers.
  • Build frameworks to track and report on financial performance, including project value measurements like ROI and NPV.
  • Influence stakeholders to adopt changes that enhance transparency and accountability in IT spending.

IT Vendor Management:

  • Collaborate on contract renewals, negotiations, and terminations with a focus on financial impact.
  • Support major vendor contract negotiations and maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Report on vendor financial performance and align agreements with IT financial goals.

Building blocks for success

Required:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in IT financial management.
  • Proven track record in IT financial management, including cost attribution and transparency.
  • Hands-on ability with Excel and ITFM tools such as Apptio.
  • In-depth understanding of current accounting standards, tax laws, and corporate financial management.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical skills

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience in vendor management and contract negotiations with major technology providers 
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, fostering collaboration between IT leaders and business partners.
  • Experience working in a global company, particularly in IT financial and vendor management

Hiring Salary Range of: $147,000-$202,000. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target & LTI) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
