Key Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure & Automation: Architect, deploy, and manage databases (e.g., MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake) across cloud and hybrid environments, driving automation for provisioning and scaling using Tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Reliability & Monitoring: Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting systems to ensure 24/7 availability.
  • Performance Optimization: Conduct database tuning, capacity planning, and query optimization to meet service-level objectives (SLOs).
  • Incident Response: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and postmortem reviews to resolve complex database failures.
  • Collaboration: Work with software engineering and SRE teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines. 
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience: Strong background in both database administration (DBA) and software engineering, typically 5+ years.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in SQL (Oracle, Postgres) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) database engines.
  • Programming & Scripting: Ability to automate tasks using Python, Go, or shell scripting.
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS (RDS/Aurora), Azure, or GCP.
  • DevOps Tools: Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD tools. 
Common Performance Metrics
  • Database uptime and reliability (SLAs).
  • Time to detection (TTD) and time to resolution (TTR).
  • Automation coverage of database tasks.
