The Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO) is a private American auto insurance company with headquarters in Chevy Chase, Maryland. GEICO is on a multi-year journey to re-platform the Insurance industry, removing friction across Customers, Partners, Marketplace, Segments, Channels, and Experiences. Data Analytics and Pricing Sophistication is at the heart of accomplishing this mission, building the Analytics for the enterprise.

We seek an experienced and strategic Director to lead our Auto Insurance Pricing Sophistication team, driving innovative pricing strategies that optimize rate adequacy, competitiveness, and profitability. This critical role leverages advanced analytics, machine learning, and industry expertise to surface actionable insights, streamline rate change lifecycle to increase speed to market and reduce errors.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute key innovation within pricing strategies for auto insurance product
  • Lead cross-functional teams to design, test and implement advanced pricing models
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Pricing, Research Analytics& Development, Enterprise Data Engineering and Technology Product Management to understand the data requirements and business critical insights to setup pricing data assets accordingly
  • Build and manage a versatile team with expertise in pricing, insurance business, AI/ML and data analytics
  • Drive analytics capabilities to improve business outcomes through predictive insights
  • Streamline rate lifecycles to respond rapidly to market shifts
  • Minimize errors and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Data practitioner who can build data products, to implement enforce internal approved standards across the ecosystem
  • Develop and own relationships with data governance team, infrastructure teams, business partners, engineering, marketing, and product management.
  • Grow the team over the coming year by advocating for additional resourcing and hiring into new open positions.
  • Present the vision and strategic recommendations with clarity and concision to stakeholders having varying degrees of data fluency.
  • Manage and prioritize requests from partners and set realistic expectations. Transparently communicate about priorities on a regular basis.
  • Enhance the team's abilities to report on performance, focus on impact, and provide transparency about critical workstreams.

Qualifications:

  • Deep experience building data products for product and business analytics
  • Has deep expertise with analytics to build data and platforms around it
  • Has deep expertise creating a learning system for analytics that can significantly improve productivity of our stakeholders
  • Has a deep understanding of different analytics techniques and AI ML standards that help with productivity.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders through a combination of savviness and deep insights.
  • A thought leader who can providing strategic guidance and decision support.
  • A creative and innovative problem solver and storyteller with data, comfortable with helping partners think and solve difficult business challenges.
  • Thrive on partnership and can build the bridge between the requirements of the business and the needed data and analytics to help the business reach their goals.
  • Have consistently coached different data engineering roles of your teams and growing leadership on your teams throughout your career.
  • Familiarity with data engineering technologies including Java, Python, SQL, ETL, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Presto, Hybrid Cloud, Data Lake, Machine Learning & AI.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, other pure sciences disciplines, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in building large-scale platforms with a focus on performance, scalability, and solving big data problems for large enterprises.
  • 8+ years of experience in building and managing teams in a senior data science leadership role.
  • Intellectual curiosity, and an understanding of AI and Machine Learning would be strongly preferred.
  • Domain depth in loss cost segmentation modeling, Lifetime Value models for insurance, and state management would be ideal to hit the ground running.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, and strong communication skills - verbal and written are essential

Location:

  • This is a hybrid role, on-site 3 days per week in Chicago, IL.
