The Process Engineer at our Sarnia refinery will be accountable for providing engineering support to operations and maintenance, as well as support through the management of change process, to ensure the overall process safety, integrity and cost effective operation of the existing assets.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performing engineering calculations and simulations required to address process equipment and/or unit performance problems, providing solutions, with a continuous improvement mindset

  • Collaboration with various Cross Functional Team members to review problem statements and proposed recommendations.

  • Provide technical assistance to operations for specialized activities

  • Participate in Hazard assessments for various Projects

  • Ability to work with and influence stakeholders on technical decisions

  • Calculate the economic justifications for project options

  • Display high degree of originality and ingenuity, devising new approaches, applying existing criteria in new ways, and drawing conclusions from comparative situations

  • Understanding of Suncor's strategic direction, both as an influencing participant and to ensure that opportunity solutions connect with medium to long term goals

  • Monitor the work of other Process Engineers (EIT) and may serve as a mentor, depending on level of experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • We’re seeking individuals with varying levels of experience to fill multiple positions, and would like to consider both more junior and senior applications

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering

  • Eligible to obtain or currently hold a Professional Engineering Designation in Ontario

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships to facilitate results and deliver value

  • Posses a deep understanding of refinery processes to make sound recommendations for process corrective actions

  • Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate and implement solutions

  • A comprehensive knowledge of industry codes, company standards and safety policies

  • Highly motivated, resourceful, resilient and committed to continuous improvement

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Sarnia location in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
