Job Description:

The Regulatory Services division of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Examination Specialist. The Maintains examination tools and publications, provides solvency assessment guidance, and provides committee staff support as an individual contributor on projects of moderate scope. This full-time hybrid position is based in Kansas City, MO in a positive and flexible environment. 

Responsibilities Include

• Develop guidance, examination questionnaires, examination planning checklists, and examination procedures for all aspects of the NAIC Financial Condition Examiners Handbook, ensuring content is current, beneficial, and compliant.
• Review examination files where presented and perform an in-depth review and analysis including an assessment of the procedures and techniques utilized to perform and document an adequate risk assessment examination. 
• Assist in the design and implementation phase of any new financial examination tools, ensuring that guidance for these new tools is maintained in existing handbooks. 
• Apply company policies and procedures to resolve issues, determine a course of action based on guidelines, and modify processes and methods as required. 
• Collaborate and communicate as necessary with colleagues and immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals in the team/group, developing stable working relationships internally. 
• Provide standard professional advice and create initial reports and analyze for review by experienced team professionals.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required

Typically has a Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or a related field is preferred and 3 - 5 years of position related progressive professional, individual contributor experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum requirement of 2 years of financial statement audit/exam experience with specialization in the insurance industry preferred, experience in internal auditing, insurance auditing, statutory accounting, financial reporting U.S. GAAP accounting and technical research.

Preferred Experience

CPA/CFE (Certified Financial Examiner) or similar designation.

Travel

This position requires regular, out-of-state, overnight travel in support of member meetings and events throughout the year. An ideal candidate must be able and willing to travel to locations throughout the United States and with such frequency as necessary to meet the needs of this position and the Association.

Compensation

$70,521 - $85,000, commensurate with education and experience.
