Job Summary:

Geisinger Community Medical Center is seeking an experienced Director to join their dynamic team in Scranton, PA.

The Director of Hospital Medicine provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for the Hospital Medicine program, ensuring high‑quality, patient‑centered inpatient care while supporting physician engagement, quality improvement, and program growth. This role partners closely with medical staff leadership, nursing, administration, and subspecialty services to advance quality, safety, efficiency, and faculty development.

Job Duties:

Clinical & Program Leadership

  • Provide clinical oversight and leadership for the Hospital Medicine service, promoting excellence in patient care, safety, and outcomes
  • Maintain an appropriate clinical workload while serving as a visible and engaged physician leader
  • Foster a collaborative, team‑based culture across physicians, APPs, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams

Operational & Strategic Management

  • Lead Hospital Medicine operations including staffing models, scheduling, throughput, and coverage planning
  • Partner with executive and site leadership on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and service line optimization
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement of hospitalists

Quality, Safety & Performance

  • Champion quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and evidence‑based care pathways
  • Monitor performance metrics (LOS, readmissions, patient experience, quality indicators) and lead improvement efforts
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards

Education & Professional Development

  • Support teaching and mentorship of physicians and APPs; collaborate with GME where applicable
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, feedback, and professional growth
  • Encourage scholarly activity, innovation, and leadership development within the group

Position Details:

Required

  • MD or DO with Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Eligible for or holding an unrestricted medical license
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within Hospital Medicine or inpatient settings

Preferred

  • Prior experience as a Medical Director, Associate Director, or Hospital Medicine leader
  • Experience with quality improvement, operations, and physician engagement initiatives
  • Strong communication, change management, and team‑building skills

Education:

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required)
