About the Role:

Senior Principal Corporate Counsel– Business Legal. Hybrid position with at least 3 days per week in our Tempe office.  

As a Corporate Counsel you will deeply engage, communicate openly and forge close working relationships with our sales, user experience, product, marketing and engineering teams to position products effectively in the marketplace and help advise on the product development life cycle. We seek a confident self-starter with good business judgment who enjoys working in a fast-paced and high-energy environment. This person will support complex commercial transactions relating to the sale or development of technology products and manage the design, development and execution of product lifecycle legal compliance oversight. You will work collaboratively with Privacy, Brand, Marketing, IP and Commercial legal team members. Innovation, enthusiasm and expert client support skills are essential.

Experience working in an in-house commercial environment, ideally within the technology sector, is preferable. You must be able to learn and adapt quickly to understand the commercial needs of the business and to proactively partner with them as a trusted advisor and leader.

What you will do in the role: 

  • Drafting and negotiation of standard and bespoke partner contracts for our various sales and partner channels, including vendor contracts.  
  • Provide balanced legal guidance to advise on customer experience, product marketing, data and technology issues. 
  • Partner with legal colleagues and internal clients to drive innovation and provide practical legal guidance to manage risk and facilitate compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Interpreting and clearly summarizing complex legal issues that help business leaders understand the issues and risks associated with a specific course of action.
  • Develop policies and procedures regarding internal legal process and manage outside counsel.
  • Assist in execution of strategic partnerships and inbound license agreements.
  • Think ahead, be proactive, and help prepare for and mitigate risks that may arise in future. 

What you need to be successful in the role:

  • JD from accredited institution and State Bar certification (preferred AZ or CA). 
  • 3-6 years of combined or relevant legal experience at a law firm or technology company.
  • Intellectually curious with a deep desire to learn and grow personally and professionally in an environment that encourages attorneys to broaden their skill set and areas of experience. 
  • Substantive familiarity with commercial contracts and business practices, marketing laws, and consumer protection laws.
  • Experience in negotiating commercial and sales contracts.
  • Ability to identify critical issues, prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently and coach others as needed; willingness to take on all levels of work assigned, whether simple or complex.
  • Excellent judgment, with a willingness to identify and address issues with relevant stakeholders, brainstorm problems as a team and contribute to a high performing team.

  • Able to think strategically and drive projects and cross functional teams with end-to-end accountability. 
  • Capability to work cross-functionally and effectively communicate legal and technical concepts to varied audiences.
  • A team-player with a sense of humor!
  • Excellent analytical skills with focus on practical and business-oriented client advice.
  • Outstanding English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing tasks in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
