  • Regularly check and manage the work queue for new MRI orders.

  • Ensure timely scheduling and completion of patient exams.

Patient Data Management:

  • Maintain and update the Pacemaker Excel spreadsheet with patient details.

  • Update the status of patients in the workflow process and delete records as exams are completed.

External Order Management:

  • Handle external orders, including transcription, information acquisition, and communication with external physicians to complete VDI forms.

  • Ensure all implanted devices are documented and MRI safety information is integrated into the patient’s medical records.

Quality Assurance and Education:

  • Stay updated with MRI safety guidelines and device compatibility information.

  • Participate in training and development activities to maintain high MRI safety and patient care standards.

Device Information Verification and Management:

  • Thoroughly assess and identify the specifics of cardiac devices for each patient, categorizing them into MRI-compatible (conditional) and non-compatible (non-conditional) devices.

  • This involves accurately scrutinizing device models, manufacturers, and conditional statuses to ensure accurate and safe MRI planning.

  • Actively obtain detailed Vendor Device Information forms for conditional devices, liaising with the Electrophysiology (EP) staff to secure these forms promptly. § This task is critical as it directly influences the scheduling and planning of MRI scans, ensuring no delays or complications arise during the imaging process.

  • The MRI Device Specialist plays a pivotal role in bridging communication between different healthcare departments, ensuring seamless information flow, and enhancing the efficiency of MRI procedures for patients with implantable devices.

Advanced Communication and Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between patients, Radiologists, EP staff, and other healthcare professionals, orchestrating the complex workflow of preparing patients for MRI scans.

  • This includes scheduling appointments, coordinating Chest X-ray (CXR) procedures, and ensuring all preparatory steps are communicated clearly and efficiently to patients.

  • Proactively manage communications, addressing any queries or concerns from patients or healthcare staff.

  • This involves a detailed explanation of procedures, scheduling, and preparation requirements, ensuring all parties are well-informed and prepared for the upcoming MRI scans.

  • The role demands a high level of coordination and communication skills, as the MRI Device Specialist significantly influences the patient experience and the operational efficiency of the MRI service. Their work ensures patients receive timely, safe, and effective imaging services.

Enhanced Safety and Compliance Oversight:

  • Conduct comprehensive screenings for all patients to identify additional implants. Methodically gather and verify information about each device to assess MRI safety and compatibility. This process is crucial for preventing potential MRI-related risks and ensuring patient safety.

  • Utilize specialized knowledge to research and analyze MRI safety information for each implantable device. This includes:

  • Accessing and interpreting data from MRI safety websites

  • Review manufacturers' guidelines to compile a complete and accurate safety profile for each patient’s implanted devices.

  • Take a proactive role in reporting and consulting with Radiologists to obtain approval for MRI studies and related procedures. This involves:

  • A detailed review of patient information, CXR results, and device safety data to make informed decisions about MRI compatibility and the safe conduct of imaging studies.

  • The MRI Device Specialist’s role is integral to maintaining the highest MRI safety and regulatory compliance standards. They ensure that every MRI scan is conducted with the utmost care and precision, safeguarding patient health and upholding the healthcare facility's reputation for excellence in medical imaging.
