As the Deputy Manager for Financial Lines Puerto Rico, you will play a crucial role in driving profitable growth, maintaining strong relationships with brokers, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service.

How you will create an impact:

  • This role is your opportunity to drive profitable growth in Financial Lines by working on creative management solutions for a complex portfolio. You will assist with KPI monitoring for both renewal (retention ratio, rate development, lost accounts, limit banding) and new business (submission, quote and hit ratios, pipeline management).

  • As Deputy Manager, you will lead a team of Junior Underwriters and Professional Associates through training and development, planning and collaborating on account specific assignments and strategies, developing underwriting and marketing skills, assisting in the referral process while adhering to underwriting guidelines and providing an example for junior colleagues to follow by setting a high standard of customer service to brokers and clients.

  • We want you to work closely with brokers to communicate risk appetite and our value proposition – and to understand the deal structures, terms and products that best meets clients’ needs. You will then negotiate pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structure with brokers and clients.

  • It will be important to generate new business by expanding your broker network, attending broker events, and building new relationships across the market. You will collaborate with AIG Distribution, Operations, and underwriters in other business lines to target desirable accounts and cross-selling opportunities.

  • Assist the Profit Center Manager with building and executing on a strategy for P&L management, including creating broker plans, target account lists and pipelines along with monitoring the portfolio for non-performing accounts.

  • Responsible for training and development of junior underwriters through planning and collaborating on account specific assignments and strategies, developing underwriting and marketing skills, and assisting in the referral process while adhering to underwriting guidelines.

  • Evaluate risks, quote and issue financial lines policies to increase production on profitable lines of business.

  • Understanding of key business drivers to drive profitability by increasing policy retention and new business results.

  • Negotiate internally and externally the underwriting of accounts and analyze financial statements, applications and other supporting documents. Request additional information to insurance brokers to analyze the risk, if it was deemed relevant.

  • Determine the acceptability of the risk and appropriate premium for coverage offered in accordance with the established underwriting guidelines.

  • Provide support in the training of Brokers and Insureds about our products.

  • Contribute to operational efficiencies.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration (Finance, Accounting or Risk Management Preferred); Master’s Degree or Juris Doctor preferred.

  • This roles suits candidates that already have a solid exposure to underwriting concepts and experience.

  • Broad underwriting technical background and decision making criteria.

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish including verbal, written and negotiation.

  • A proven track record of excellent customer service skills and Interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and prioritization skills.

  • Strong communication, networking and relationship building skills to integrate with our key brokers and provide excellent service.

  • Experience in writing reports and business correspondence.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite products specially Excel (a must) and Word, Adobe.
