Job Summary
Work Shift
1 - First ShiftThe Engineer I - Test performs the required instrumented and cyclic testing of engineering prototypes necessary to confirm reliability standards expected of production units. Some fabrication, disassembly, and reassembly of test parts may be required.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.
2. Plan, coordinate, and implement sequence of testing and instrumentation procedures for test units.
3. Interpret test results and provide general conclusion with supporting data. Document accurate test results and testing procedures.
4. Travel to the field to understand Vermeer equipment, conduct tests, and provide written reports. May serve as Vermeer representative during the field-testing process.
5. Justify test duration period, duty cycles, and methods for duplicating actual field conditions. Develop logical methods to accelerate testing where applicable.
6. Disassemble test units and inspect components for defects and/or specification.
Education and/or Experience
- 4-year college degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering.
- Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 4 years related experience.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to operate a soldering station, drill press, hand drill, hand tools and multi-meter.
- Ability to work with various instrumentation and data acquisition equipment.
- Exposure to hydraulic, structural, sound, vibration or EMC testing.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong hands-on ability.
- Demonstration of good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to conduct new product testing, disassemble test units, and inspect components for defects and specification.
- Ability to assist production efforts with other engineers and departments.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to fellow employees in a tactful manner; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints with innovative solutions; ability to be informative and provide professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers.
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships that encourage openness.
- Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to write policies, new procedures, test reports, standard work and training modules.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
iNARTE EMC/EMI engineer certification preferred.
Travel
Up to 15% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
