Job Description:

SCOPE: As a medical scribe, you will be at the center of the patient-doctor encounter, learning medical terms, coding and transcribing medical notes.  You will be a personal assistant to the physician, performing documentation in the EHR, gathering information for the patient's visit, and partnering with the physician to deliver efficient patient care. Candidate must have excellent typing skills, communication skills, and must be a quick learner. On the job training will be provided. This experience allows you to stand out in professional school applications by learning medical documentation and coding skills, as well as giving you real-world exposure to healthcare.

FUNCTIONS:

1.    Transcribes and quality checks medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care.
2.    Meets quality and productivity standards and deadlines as established by employer.
3. Operates software and equipment as directed to complete assignments.

4. Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the medical transcription.

5.    Interacts with co-workers, and physicians.
6.    Uses interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships
 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be on a pre-MED or pre-PA track
Must be within 4-6 weeks of graduating college or in your gap year/years between med/pa school

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, vital signs and symptoms, medications, diagnostic tests, laboratory values.
Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices. 
Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, and style. 
Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects, and varying dictation styles.
Ability to operate designated word processing, dictation, and transcription equipment and other equipment as specified.
Excellent listening skills.
Excellent eye, hand, and auditory coordination.
Must type a minimum of 65 wpm.
