Job Description Summary:

This position works as a specialist in multiple crafts or trades. Work requires highly specialized knowledge, experience and ability to independently perform and complete projects requiring a variety of crafts or trades including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, controls and piping systems including hydronic, steam and air with an emphasis on troubleshooting in all areas.

Competency Definition

  • Basic: Level of experience gained in a classroom and/or experimental scenarios or as a trainee on-the-job.

  • Proficient: Able to successfully complete tasks independently with occasional assistance from an expert

  • Advanced: Able to successfully complete tasks independently without assistance.

  • Expert: Able to provide guidance, troubleshoot and answer questions related to this area of expertise and the field where the skill is used

Required Qualifications

Education: Technical/trade degree

Work Experience:

  • 5 years equivalent experience with facility maintenance operations/functions/activities

  • Must be able to provide guidance, troubleshoot and answer questions related to this area of expertise and the field where the skill is used to be considered an expert.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Master plumber, electrician, or pipe fitter license- Commercial

  • HVAC certification – Commercial

Skills:

  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 20-50 pounds.

Job Duties Outlined:

Job duties vary in complexity based on MCMT level. Primary MCMT III job duties are listed below.

  • Utilize knowledge of the standard practices, tools, equipment, and materials associated with a variety of crafts involved in facility maintenance to make repairs to electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.

  • Plan and lay out work, determine accurate and efficient methods, diagnose and correct complications to maximize efficiency.

  • Analyze controls issues and make necessary corrections to ensure action has eliminated the problem.

  • Read, interpret, and work from sketches, blueprints, schematics, and specifications to evaluate, analyze and resolve problems.

  • Understand and execute all aspects of the preventative maintenance process

  • Provide daily progress reports to the manager regarding status of projects with regard to projected times to completion, difficulties encountered, and actions taken to remedy those problems.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
