J81 is a 25-bed telemetry stepdown unit with private rooms. It is an adynamic unit where skilled nurses provide high acuity, specialized care to a diverse population of cardiac patients. From acute myocardial infarction and post-cardiac interventions to chronic heart failure and complex dysrhythmia management, this team plays a critical role in guiding patients through some of their most vulnerable moments. 

 

The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff while supporting positive patient experience in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient operational flow within the department. The HUC supports their assigned unit that specializes in patients with cardiovascular conditions. Responsibilities include communication coordination, patient record management, order processing, and supporting the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe, high-quality patient care 

 

A caregiver in this position works day/evening rotation, from 6:30am – 7:00pm or 2:30pm-11:00pm. Weekends and holiday rotation are required  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients. 

  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.  

  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. 

  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources. 

  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care. 

  • Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma or GED  

  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role  

  • Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • College Degree  

  • Microsoft Office experience  

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
