Job Description

The Director, Finance will be part of BAM’s Corporate team and will report into the VP, Finance. Located in our head office in Downtown Toronto, the Director, Finance role is a critical position that provides a solid foundation and exposure to a progressive and dynamic career with a leading global asset management firm. The Director, Finance will be actively involved in leading the team through quarterly financial reporting processes, supporting monthly financial close cycles, and working with various internal stakeholders and teams to identify and implement key improvement opportunities. They will also provide leadership and mentorship to a growing team of senior/corporate accountants and interns.

Responsibilities:


The responsibilities for this position would include, among other things:

  • Oversee quarterly reporting process for the corporate segment, including various requirements for public reporting templates prepared in accordance with IFRS and US GAAP,

  • Oversee the preparation of financial statement notes, MD&A and supplemental reporting schedules pertaining to the corporate segment,

  • Collaborate with other platforms to resolve intercompany reporting discrepancies,

  • Review of corporate accounting entries and period end accruals,

  • Support monthly financial close cycles for the corporate team and identify opportunities to implement practical changes to drive improvements and efficiencies,

  • Support the execution of complex technical accounting steps and issues, including the coordination with other business units and departments,

  • Support the finance team’s responsibilities in shared service functions,

  • Review of accounting packages for individual legal entities, including review of tax financials and financials for covenant compliance reporting,

  • Preparation of responses for various quarterly and annual industry regulatory reporting requirements,

  • Collaborate regularly with and respond to the business and finance inquiries from other Brookfield business groups and departments,

  • Preparing internal and external audit requests and maintaining appropriate control documentation,

  • Provide direct reports with ongoing training opportunities, mentorship and lead the continued growth and development of each direct report,

  • Continuously look for efficiency in our processes, tools and reports and make suggestions to implement these into our framework, and

  • Lead special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive work experience in accounting and auditing functions, including 3-4 years of industry experience

  • A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA/CA Preferred)

  • Experience with public company reporting requirements under IFRS

  • Strong financial systems experience, including advanced Excel skills

  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, and the willingness to always support the team

  • Highly organized and able to work in a dynamic, complex and fast-paced environment, as well as adapt quickly to manage changing priorities and deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated and pro-active, with respect to both managing workload and professional development

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and Workiva would be an asset
