Your New Role

Warner Bros. Discovery legal is seeking a Director of Global Rights Management, to lead a team of rights analysts and paralegals in multiple regions; to manage day to day rights operations primarily for MAX and the Turner Networks; to review and analyze complex rights agreements for both acquisitions as well as original programming, to update rights systems, to perform quality control of rights data, to liaise with attorneys, programming, sales and operations teams, and lead various special projects. Assist with the development of strategies to define and shape future WBD rights systems and flow of rights data throughout WBD. 

Your Role Accountabilities

  • Lead team of rights analysts and paralegals that maintain distribution and exhibition rights and clearances data in WBD’s rights systems. Requires review and analysis of complex legal documents, ensuring rights data input is accurate and timely, establishing best practices and building partnerships with the other WBD Global Rights Teams to harmonize processes and create efficiencies where possible.
  • Manage the team to ensure continued engagement in the team’s work through periods of change: inspire team to meet targets for data entry into rights management systems; mentor and coach team to facilitate team members’ development and growth. Engage with team to meaningfully participate in the development of the new rights management solution
  • Assist with partnering with clients in sales organizations, network programming, business affairs, and finance to ensure that the development of all plans for rights system unification and integration align with business priorities, with a focus on setting up legacy content to be sold by the global distribution team.  Ensure that clearance needs are met day-to-day and during periods of transition.
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day liaison with network and MAX programming teams. Respond timely to questions and research requests. Support expansion of the MAX global footprint by ensuring that rights data is up to date and is available to meet expansion timelines.
  • May also supervise team members in the distribution rights section of Global Rights Management. Requires knowledge of the IPM System, 3rd party content sales and MPM creation.
  • Maintain close relationships with attorneys who drive deals for both originally produced and acquired programming; raise awareness of how requirements arising from contractual terms are reflected both in new global Rights Logic and IPM rights databases.
  • Assist with the development of the overarching strategy for the transformation of Warner Bros. Discovery’s media supply chain systems, including the retirement of legacy systems, creation and vetting of new title identifiers, and the development of a new global rights management system for all Warner Bros. Discovery networks and platforms.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7+ years of relevant rights management experience, including team management, knowledge of software systems and rights platforms, deep understanding of distribution and exhibition rights, as well as clearances for content sales, linear networks and SVOD platforms.
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish high levels of trust and credibility internally and externally and influence others.
  • Strong leadership skills and general management orientation, including management of team members located in different territories and time zones.
  • Effective assessor of talent – builds and motivates high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking strong problem-solving skills – navigates effectively through difficult issues, builds required consensus to drive business needs and results.
  • High results orientation and able to effectively juggle and prioritize many competing demands – high tolerance to effectively manage change.
  • Team oriented – approachable and viewed as coach and mentor to others.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $95,550.00 - $177,450.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.
