What you will do

Support the execution of manufacturing projects by designing plant layouts, developing task lists, and creating standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role requires close collaboration with engineering teams and other departments to ensure seamless project execution and effective integration of manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and planning of assembly and plant layout designs for all projects, while leading the department to uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity.

How you will do it

  • Design product assembly lines by collaborating closely with production, engineering, and quality teams.

  • Ensure all preparatory tasks are completed before production begins, including line and station setups (such as BOMs, fabrication parts, and consumables), developing task lists, and designing subassemblies and plant layouts.

  • Prioritize safety for all workers and managers, ensuring adherence to Alberta and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.

  • Attend Joint Health and Safety Advisory (JHSA) meetings and participate in health and safety incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective action requests (CARs), and preventive measures.

  • Collaborate with the safety department and structural engineers to design effective safety restraint systems and other solutions to ensure safety is sustained before project commencement.

  • Serve as a liaison between engineering and production on all projects, facilitating effective communication and knowledge transfer between engineering departments, project managers (PMs), and production supervisors.

  • Manage construction kick-off planning, addressing all agenda items well in advance, including safety, schedule creation, and distribution of drawings to production personnel for review.

  • Manage and mentor production coordinators, providing direction on daily projects and overseeing larger initiatives such as assembly line layouts and process refinement.

  • Oversee the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process, reviewing and approving all ECRs.

  • Collaborate with the Quality Control (QC) department to implement standard work procedures, support the closure of CARs, and establish long-term fixes to prevent recurrence.

  • Partner with the Continuous Improvement (CI) team, contributing to product research, construction drawing coordination, design calculations, ROI calculations, and other improvement efforts.

  • Act as project engineer on significant engineering and production projects, including Factory Witness Tests and prototype testing. Handle research, pricing, product procurement, and project management on the floor with production leaders, ensuring accuracy in as-built documentation.

  • Work with production and planning teams to gather essential project information, especially for time trials and scheduling tasks as projects transition to main production.

  • Perform administrative duties such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions regarding the purchase of materials and services.

  • Ensure projects adhere to Request for Proposal (RFP) requirements, engineering specifications, and contracting procedures.

  • Collaborate with line supervisors to oversee staff training, development, and competency maintenance.

  • Analyze information, evaluate results, and choose the best solutions to solve problems.

  • Monitor project progress against schedules and recommend resource allocation as needed to achieve goals.

  • Review QC inspection reports and assist in resolving field construction problems.

  • Provide technical oversight and coordination of project engineering work through project coordination meetings and other methods.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates via telephone, written form, email, or in-person.

  • Perform other duties as required.

What we look for
