As a Research Veterinary Tech II, you will ensure the health and well-being of all animals housed in the BRU in accordance with guidelines, policies and regulations, under the supervision of the Biological Resources Unit (BRU) Veterinarians. You may function as a Surgery Technician as well as a trainer and assist with programs related to Veterinary Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates animals upon arrival and during quarantine period.
  • Administers medical treatments to animals as needed and may assist the Veterinarians, investigators and the animal care staff with performing technical procedures.
  •  Monitors condition of post-operative animals and animals that require veterinary care.
  • Develops and implements animal health treatment plan under direction of Veterinarians and communicates plan to research personnel.
  • Maintains accurate records and ensures that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and adequately supplied.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in a Veterinary Technician program.

Certifications:

  • Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (VT) by the State of Ohio.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Demonstrated competence as a licensed Veterinary Technician.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment, supplies and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.
  • Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.
  • May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
