Job Summary:

Assist emergency room team, in a consultant role to provide clinical care, evaluation and disposition recommendation to patients and families presenting to the emergency room in mental health or substance abuse crisis. Provides written recommendation for level of care and coordinates placement, plan and/or referral as needed. Uses organizational admission criteria for decision making and communicates/coordinates disposition recommendation with treatment and community teams.

Key Position Details:

This is an evening position, six 10-hour shifts per pay period. 

Shift information:

  • day shift - 8am-6pm during the week
  • and day/evening shift, every other weekend - 11a-9p

This role is eligible for a $3,750.00 retention bonus + 30-hours of frontloaded PTO.

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

  • Assess clinical condition and recommend appropriate level of clinical care.
  • Collaborates with community care team and caregivers to provide patient-centered recommendation.
  • Provides ongoing reassessment and crisis intervention while patient remains in the emergency room.
  • Coordinates with placement team and/or community partners to support disposition recommendation.
  • Referrals of patients to outpatient services either within or outside the system.
  • Remains up to date with current resources and patient access referrals within the system and in the community.
  • Conduct face-to-face, in person or virtual (telehealth) consultation with patients in crisis/psychiatric emergencies.
  • Provide strong documentation of collateral contacts, guardians/power of attorneys and other caregivers relevant to the patient presentation.
  • Note disposition of case providing clear rationale for recommendations.
  • Follow necessary guidelines for documentation of discharge plans

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or other mental health profession required
  • 2+ years experience in a behavioral health setting required
  • Direct clinical experience in a hospital, mental health, or clinic setting preferred
  • 1 year crisis management skills in hospital, clinic, or managed care setting preferred
  • Licensed Graduate Social Worker - MN Board of Social Work required upon hire and working to complete LICSW within the hourly requirement.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor - MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy required upon hire and working toward LPCC licensure.
  • Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist required upon hire and working toward LMFT licensure.
  • Independent license preferred
