Strategic Sourcing Specialist, Supply Chain Management, Calgary(Contract Role)

Our Supply Chain Management team is recruiting a Strategic Sourcing Specialist in our Calgary office. Reporting to the Lead, Category Management, this role provides opportunities to learn and work in a positive, innovative, and agile environment while being mentored by a great team.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Strategic Sourcing Specialist to join our team. This individual plays a pivotal role in our SCM team by optimizing procurement within specific product or service categories. They will identify key suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. By leveraging data analysis and market intelligence, they will drive cost savings, supplier collaboration, and innovation, fostering efficient supply chain operations and enhancing overall business performance. They will bring their strong analytical skills and superior negotiation abilities to help MEG achieve optimal results.

*Please note, this is a 12-month contract position with compensation as a straight hourly rate**

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Category Management:
    • Collaborate with Category Advisors to develop a comprehensive sourcing plan that considers local/regional market dynamics, thorough spend analysis, and strategic commercial initiatives.
    • Formulate strategies for strategic or critical services/materials not directly managed or defined under MEG's category taxonomy
  • Relationship Management:
    • Sustain key supplier relationships by fostering strong relationships, and ensuring timely delivery, quality, and cost-effectiveness of key commodities throughout contract lifecycles.
    • Proactively engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders at the appropriate leadership levels, acting as a liaison between the Business Unit and other Supply Chain departments or internal stakeholders.
  • Contract Management:
    • Negotiate contracts and terms, analyze pricing structures, optimize profitability, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Utilize various costing models effectively.
    • Plan and execute sourcing events such as RFPs and market tests, leveraging analytical insights and market intelligence to identify potential suppliers and evaluate proposals to drive quality outcomes
    • Maintain contract records in Maximo and ensure consistent compliance with defined parameters, including supplier qualifications as per established guidance. Maintain existing supplier qualification requirements.
  • Commercial Optimization:
    • Realize cost saving opportunities through negotiations and execution against the sourcing plan and execution of sourcing events
  • Operational Procurement:
    • Validate and maintain approved suppliers list for all assigned categories in accordance with MEG’s Contractor & Supplier Management principles and the documented category strategy

What you will bring to MEG:

  • Solid understanding of leading supply chain techniques (including but not limited to total cost ownership principles, category management and strategic sourcing models, and supplier qualification methodology).Ability to build good rapport with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong negotiation skills, both contractual and commercial​
  • Demonstrated experience with multiple sourcing methodologies (RFX, etc.). ​
  • Understanding of strategic sourcing principles and P2P processes along with the ability to apply this knowledge to execute projects and optimize strategies
  • Ability to build good rapport with internal and external stakeholders
  • Effective communications at all levels of management both internally and externally.
  • Excellent influencing and engagement skills with the ability to energize others at all levels of the organization.
  • 8+ years of progressive strategic sourcing and Supply Chain experience
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail​
  • Ability to multitask while prioritizing workload​.
  • Maximo experience considered an asset
