The role sits within the Bankwest Technology division.  Bankwest is a subsidiary of The Commonwealth Bank, and the Bankwest Technology division (BWT) is accountable for maintaining system resilience and supporting the delivery of our bold technology strategy at pace and scale. 

Bankwest Technology consists of Platforms and Chapters underpinned by areas of expertise that manage Bankwest technology, applications and systems to support the Bankwest business.  Bankwest Technology is located primarily in Bankwest Place in Perth, WA and has a total approx. 650 employees.  

Bankwest Technology is made up of the following areas of expertise: 

  • Technology Programs

  • Strategy & Agility 
  • GTS Technology Platforms and Service Management 
  • Chief Technology Office 
  • Risk and Control Advisory and Delivery

You will be working as a team member within the squad having 4-5 developers and act as a quality advocate for the squad.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of the SDLC which includes Analysis, Estimation, Design, Development, Quality Assurance, Support,
  • Maintenance and Optimization tasks.
  • Should be a quick learner and be flexible and open to learn new technology and frameworks and write code
  • Contribute to solutions of high technical quality.
  • Maintaining software design, engineering processes and quality standards including maintaining privacy of customer
  • information and following secure code practice.
  • Provide tools, expertise, and knowledge to help squad gain a shared understanding of outcome and shared
  • ownership of quality.
  • Maintains awareness of changes in the external environment and continuously advances the capability.
  • Pro-actively look for ways to provide faster feedback
  • Work collaboratively with engineers within and across squads.
  • Support the team in delivering quality outcomes within committed time frames.
  • Maintaining Code Quality and standards
  • Troubleshooting complex technical issues
  • Risk Mindset – All Bankwest employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act
  • on current and future risks.

Essential Skills:

Minimum 4-8 years of experience with expert level knowledge, working with the following languages

  • COBOL, PL/I, CICS, JCL, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, DB2 /SQL
  • Good understanding of DB2 performance
  • Experience with unit testing and support QA testing
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability and working in an Agile delivery approach
  • Data modelling, security testing, REST API, JSON.
  • continuous delivery are desirable skills.

Experience working with the following Tools:

  • Unit testing tools
  • Confluence and Jira
  • HP Service Manager
  • Source Control systems
  • Build & Deployment tools
  • Monitoring tools such as Splunk

Awareness of the following Software Development Concepts:

  • REST and API Development
  • Secure Coding Practices
  • User Experience (UX) design
  • Continuous delivery
  • Agile methodology

Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/ Information Technology.
