Engineering a world of possibilities

Post-Doctoral Fellow - Mechanical Engineering - Proton-Conducting Ceramics DOE Project

The Opportunity
The Colorado School of Mines seeks post-doctoral candidates with demonstrated research and development capabilities in proton-conducting ceramics or closely related areas such as ceramic oxygen-conducting electrolytes.  The research is supported by a three-year Department of Energy project on development of tubular-based protonic-ceramic steam electrolysis cells and systems.  The project is grounded in fundamental materials science, but with significant forward-looking attention to practical scale-up and cost-effective manufacturing.  The project spans laboratory-based materials development and testing, physics-based modeling and simulation, and process design and scaling.   However, the successful candidate would not be expected to have demonstrated expertise in all these areas.  Nevertheless, broad interests and team collaboration is relevant.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.  The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment, including impactful archival papers and technical presentations.  The successful candidate will be expected to author or co-author archival papers documenting the research.

Salary Rate and Benefits

$62,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.

Colorado School of Mines offers a robust portfolio of benefits for all employees. For this role, that includes:

  • Flexible health and dental care plans

  • Generous sick/vacation time: 13 paid holidays per year – including a week-long winter break for entire campus.
