About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in our dynamic Homeless Health Service (HHS) leading our approach to the provision of high quality equitable care to people experiencing homelessness. Working within a strength based, trauma informed framework, the Homeless Outreach Team Mental Health Clinician will provide culturally appropriate mental health assessment, brief intervention, referral and care planning to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness by the provision of outreach mental health clinics in local homelessness services. They will also provide outreach mental health care and support to people who sleep rough in the City of Sydney LGA. Clients are assisted to access mainstream and specialist healthcare to improve their health and wellbeing outcomes.

The position is permanent, full time, Monday – Friday. There will be occasional early start times. This position will be classified as a multigrade so Registered Nurses, Psychologist, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists are invited to apply.

About you:
We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Mental Health Clinician with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive Homeless Outreach Team. The Mental Health Clinician will possess a passion for collaborative, culturally safe and person centred care. They will align with St Vincent’s values of justice and health equity, with the ability to provide expert multidisciplinary mental healthcare and support for HHS clients assisting them to access mental health services of their choice.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist or Occupational Therapist, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Demonstrated ability to provide mental health assessment, brief intervention, referral and care planning for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness living with a mental illness, and the ability to provide culturally safe care.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to health equity, the principles of trauma-informed care and the utilisation of a strengths-based framework.

  • Demonstrated ability to work within the interdisciplinary team and with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical supervision, ongoing professional development and demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated effective computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system

  • Current NSW Driver’s License
