Rotated 1st/2nd/3rd Shift - Full Time

Our Machinist Trainee program is open to candidates without prior machining experience who want to learn CNC machine operation and the skills to become a Machinist.

The selected candidate will obtain a general understanding of machinist work processes and build necessary skills to be able to advance in their career and become a qualified machinist.

  • Program will utilize a combination of formal course work with Gateway Technical College as well as an extended period of on the job shadowing and training at South Milwaukee. 

  • Course work will be used to teach the basics of CNC machining and related activities. 

  • Course curriculum will be customized using CAT applications and examples. 

  • Drawing and Blue Print 

  • Inspection and Gauging 

  • Mill 

  • Lathe 

  • Employees expected to complete coursework with passing grade 

  • Employee must demonstrate that the necessary skills and abilities have been demonstrated for each step of the outline.  If sufficient progress is not achieved, the learner can be removed from the program.

Top Candidates will have:

  • Knowledge of basic machine shop math, including high school trigonometry.

  • Knowledge of basic machine shop practices.

  • Be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of machining terminology and procedures.

  • Be able to demonstrate a safe work history.

Candidate Requirements

  • All candidates are required to take two tests - Mechanical and Spatial at MATC

Candidate Commitment

This position will require a commitment in this role for a maximum of 4 years - first 18 months general learning, last 6 months machine/job code specific (6G77, 6G60, 6G56).  Employee cannot bid to other jobs for 2 years following completion of the Learner Program.

Shift

It will be management’s discretion to assign the trainee to any shift during the Learner program. The last 6 months of the program, the employee will be assigned to a machine and that placement will depend on available job code, machine and shift, by seniority.

Costs

Tools will be provided to the Learner and school supplies and tuition will be paid by the company.

Pay Rate

Pay rates will increase every 6 months while in program.  Final rate will depend on machine placed on at the end of 24-month program.

  • $24.11 - Starting Rate

  • $25.71 - 6 months

  • $27.32 - 12 months

  • $28.93 - 18 months
