Systems Engineer

This Systems Engineer will demonstrate a strong interest in space and hands‑on engineering work. The role spans both physical telescope systems and the software used to command, control, and monitor them. The individual will support end‑to‑end deployment of small telescope systems, including designing mechanical adapters and interfaces, conducting camera studies and system burn‑in, and performing installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities. Work will be conducted at laboratory facilities and fielded observatory sites, including operations at high‑altitude locations such as Haleakalā Mountain, with additional travel to remote deployment locations as required.
Responsibilities
The individual will work as part of a high‑performance engineering team developing and sustaining advanced Space Domain Awareness (SDA) capabilities. This role supports the design, development, integration, verification, deployment, and long‑term maintenance of a network of Raven‑class small-aperture telescope systems. Responsibilities span system hardware and software across the full lifecycle, including hands-on integration and test, operational support, performance assessment, and fielded system sustainment.
This position performs a variety of engineering work in the development of an operable system capable of meeting requirements within imposed constraints including mass, cost and schedule. Designs and/or research subsystem interfaces to ensure that subsystems are integrated and work together to form a viable complete system. Performs functional analysis of a system to ensure it meets performance criteria and mission constraints and to feed the analysis results back to the subsystem development teams. Prepares design sketches and general equipment design of simple parts, subsystem interfaces, system layouts, etc. Performs relatively simple engineering and mathematical formulas and computations. Prepares analysis of technical data and information resulting from tests, studies, analysis, etc. Assisting other technical personnel in the preparation of technical reports, graphs and charts. May participate as a member of a team; primary contact is immediate supervisor. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline with a minimum of 0-3 years of related experience. Additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
