Job Title: Data Engineer / DevOps Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a hybrid Data Engineer / DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable data pipelines and platform infrastructure. This role combines strong data engineering expertise (SQL optimization, ETL, APIs) with DevOps practices (automation, cloud infrastructure, security, and CI/CD).

You will work at the intersection of data platforms, IT operations, and cloud systems, enabling reliable data flows and operational automation.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering

  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines (ETL/ELT) from multiple sources (e.g., APIs, databases, SaaS platforms like Jira/Confluence)
  • Optimize and troubleshoot complex SQL Server queries, focusing on performance and scalability
  • Develop incremental and full data extraction frameworks (e.g., API-based ingestion with date filters)
  • Model and maintain data warehouses / marts for reporting and analytics
  • Handle data ingestion into cloud storage (e.g., AWS S3) and manage metadata considerations
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance
  • Automate data workflows and orchestration
  • Work with structured and semi-structured data formats

DevOps Engineering

  • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines for data and application deployments
  • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) for reproducible environments
  • Automate operational tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar) including storage, access control, and encryption
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and event-driven automation for IT operations
  • Ensure secure access control (IAM policies, API restrictions, network security)
  • Support deployment and configuration of tools (e.g., SSIS/SSAS, development environments)
  • Improve system reliability and incident response processes

Required Skills

Data Engineering

  • Strong expertise in SQL Server (query tuning, indexing, execution plans)
  • Experience with ETL tools (SSIS or equivalent)
  • Solid programming skills in Python
  • Experience integrating with REST APIs (e.g., Jira API)
  • Knowledge of data modeling (star schema, normalization)
  • Experience with data extraction strategies (full vs incremental loads)

DevOps Engineering

  • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS: S3, IAM, encryption)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.)
  • Scripting: PowerShell, Bash
  • Understanding of infrastructure as code (Terraform, ARM, etc.)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging systems
  • Understanding of security best practices (IAM, API access control)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric / modern data platforms
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures
  • Exposure to ITIL processes / IT operations workflows
  • Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with Active Directory / enterprise environments

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving mindset, especially in debugging complex systems
  • Ability to bridge data engineering and operational teams
  • Good communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ownership of systems end-to-end (build + run)

Example Use Cases You’ll Work On

  • Building pipelines to extract and analyze Jira ticket data
  • Optimizing slow SQL queries impacting reporting systems
  • Designing secure multi-user data ingestion into S3
  • Automating IT operations workflows using event-driven triggers
  • Setting up development environments and extensions (e.g., SSIS/SSAS)
  • Securing APIs from unauthorized external access
