The Certified Hyperbaric Chamber Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). This role involves the safe operation of the hyperbaric chamber, assessment and monitoring of patients before, during, and after treatment, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes.Pay Range: $29.96 - $49.25/hour
Employment Type: Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm
Requirements: Graduate of accredited Registered Nursing Program required, Current Michigan RN License required, Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN) required, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required
Perform pre-treatment assessments, including patient history, physical condition, and contraindications for HBOT.
Monitor and assess patients during hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions.
Administer oxygen therapy according to prescribed protocols and safety standards.
Operate and troubleshoot monoplace or multiplace hyperbaric chambers.
Educate patients and families about hyperbaric therapy and wound care.
Maintain accurate patient records, including treatment logs and nursing notes.
Collaborate with physicians, wound care specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
Ensure compliance with safety standards set by NFPA, UHMS, and facility policies.
Respond promptly to emergencies within the chamber environment.
Participate in quality improvement and continuing education activities.
Licensure:
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Michigan
Certification:
Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse (CHRN) — Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) — Required
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program — Required
Experience:
Minimum 1–2 years of RN experience
Experience in wound care or critical care — Preferred
Previous experience in hyperbaric medicine — Highly Desirable
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment skills
Familiarity with hyperbaric chamber equipment and protocols
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Ability to respond to emergencies calmly and effectively
Must complete an approved introductory hyperbaric medicine course within the first six months of employment.
Complete an on-the-job internship training program with a mentor using department-specific competency modules.
Function under mentor supervision until full competency is demonstrated.
Certification in hyperbaric medicine must be obtained within the first year of employment.
Employee may sit for the certification exam a total of three times. Must apply for the next available exam after each unsuccessful attempt.
Continued employment will be evaluated if certification is not achieved after three attempts.
