Oxy Algeria will be running 2026 summer internships lasting approximately 8 weeks, starting in early July. This internship is only open to students who will still be enrolled (not have graduated) from a Bachelor's or Master's course at an Algerian University in the summer of 2026.

This position will be based at Groupement Berkine in Hassi Messaoud following a brief onboarding at Oxy in Algiers.

The summer internship project will focus on supporting HSE management within GB's (Groupement Berkine's) operational environment, with particular emphasis on the 3 Year review and update of HSE & Process Safety Procedures and Guidelines (PSPGs).

The intern will work closely with HSE, operations, and engineering teams to support the identification, assessment, and control of process safety and operational risks associated with GB’s activities, including process operations, maintenance activities, and site-based work.

The project will involve reviewing existing PSPGs and safety-critical documentation to ensure they are current, accurate, and aligned with operational practices, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

The intern will participate in site inspections, safety observations, audits, and formal risk assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to verify that procedural controls adequately address identified hazards.

Expected Deliverables

  • Review of existing HSE management systems and safety-critical procedures
  • Participation in site inspections, audits, and safety observations
  • Support in preparing and updating HAZID, HAZOP, JSA, and risk assessments
  • Analysis of operational and maintenance processes to identify safety and efficiency improvements
  • Contribution to the improvement of permit-to-work, isolation, and emergency response procedures
  • Contribution to the improvement of MS Element Leadership, Corporate Responsibility, People, Risk, Asset Integrity, Third Party Services, Operations Excellence, Management of Change, Information Management and Assurance & Improvement.
  • Data analysis and reporting on safety performance indicators and operational efficiency
  • Final internship report summarising findings, key risks, improvement opportunities and recommendations

Must be studying HSE , Industrial Engineering or a very closely related discipline.

Good analytical skills to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities in safety documentation

Effective written and verbal communication skills to work with HSE, operations, and engineering teams

Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage tasks, track actions, and meet deadlines

Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Basic understanding of HSE and process safety principles, with awareness of major accident hazards

Ability to review and update safety procedures and guidelines (e.g. PSPGs) with strong attention to detail

Studying towards a degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
