As an Operations Central Team (OCT) Workforce Development Manager at Micron Technology, Inc., you will lead a team of workforce development specialists/engineers to ensure Operations Central Team workforce readiness, collaborate with Front End manufacturing sites and the Micron network to optimize the training and documentation infrastructure, processes, and products that enable manufacturing capability and competitiveness. Additionally, you will play a key role in establishing and managing a new training centers curriculum, staffing, and operations to support the training needs of Micron U.S. Fab Expansion. This role will work closely with teams worldwide to support the growth and development of the manufacturing workforce, aligning with our organizational goals and visions.

The Operations Central Team Workforce Development Manager will be based in Boise, ID, USA and reports directly to the Senior Manager of Operations Central Team Workforce Development.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

1) Operations Central Team Workforce Development

  • Coordinate the definition for Operations Central Team job roles which consist of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competency requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Operations Central Team Leadership Team to determine the technical training requirements for Operations Central Team workforce.
  • Develop training curricula for Operations Central Team workforce and monitor progress to ensure adherence to workforce readiness standards.
  • Recommend the appropriate training resources, methods, and programs to advance the technical skills for Operations Central Team workforce.
  • Drive accountability through clear communication, effective project management, and the appropriate use of metrics.

2) Training Center Establishment and Management

  • Design and implement comprehensive curricula that address the specific training needs of Micron U.S. Fab Expansion while ensuring alignment with the boarder Fab network.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Procurement, Facilities, Manufacturing, IT…) to coordinate the setup of training facilities, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary technology and resources.
  • Recruit and train a dedicated team of instructors and support staff to deliver high-quality training programs.
  • Develop partnership with educational institutions and industry experts to enhance training content and delivery.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs, making adjustments based on feedback and performance metrics.
  • Manage the budget and resources of the training center to maximize efficiency and return on investment.

3) Strategic and Tactical Manufacturing Training and Documentation

  • Facilitate the standardization and continuous improvement of training and documentation systems, tools, and processes across the Front End manufacturing network.
  • Align training and documentation systems and standards with customer requirements and audit requirements.   
  • Lead cross-functional training and documentation initiatives that support Operations Central Team, Front End, and company objectives.
  • Collaborate with peers and site functional managers to agree on a common direction and establish cohesive approach for training and documentation strategies.  
  • Establish metrics to benchmark training and documentation related performance, identify and share Best Known Methods (BKMs) across the Front End network.
  • Drive and support SEAL and SWAT training and documentation activities to ensure business value and realization (adoption) are accomplished across the Front End network.
  • Provide day-to-day tactical support to the Front End manufacturing sites on training and documentation related issues.
  • Assist in formulating deliverables and identify clear ownership for training and documentation initiatives.
  • Manage training and documentations requests that come from other departments. Prioritize based on available resources and requirements.

4) Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing team members to build a robust Operations Central Team Workforce Development team.
  • Set and achieve team goals and objectives in line with Operations Central Team, Front End, and Micron priorities.
  • Manage team performance and provide constructive guidance and feedback.
  • Facilitate leader succession planning to ensure leadership continuity and growth within the team.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive team culture to encourage diverse perspectives and team cohesion.
  • Foster a positive work culture that prioritizes safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment, and communicating issues to the appropriate resources for timely resolution.  

5) Communication

  • Maintain strong and open relationships with peers and managers in other key functional areas such as People Organization, Technology and Product Group, and Global Quality. Communicate and respond to issues in a timely manner.
  • Deliver effective and compelling presentations to both small and large groups on project updates and new initiative proposals.
  • Engage management team periodically to ensure area goals are being met and get assistance timely to remove obstacles that are preventing their completion. Use all available resources to manage the successful completion of goals (including resources outside of the area).

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Training and Development, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in workforce development or training within a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to effectively lead virtual teams.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized, strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with senior leaders.
  • Experience in establishing and managing training centers preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing systems and processes preferred.

Workplace

  • International travel may be required occasionally (1-2 times per year), with each trip lasting up to two weeks.
  • The position involves teleconference meetings during evenings with global manufacturing sites. A flexible work schedule is available to facilitate cross-time zone collaboration.
