Overview of Position
This Director role is primarily responsible for all areas relating to Lifestyle segment reinsurance financial accounting, reporting and controls. This position will be responsible for maintaining relationships with the business and clients, setting priorities to meet the needs of both the business and the finance department. The Accounting Director supervises staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close for financial reporting on a GAAP and Statutory basis
Perform Lifestyle segment contract reviews
Lead the CECL reinsurance process
Oversee SOX reinsurance controls, internal and external audit requirements
Own prioritization of projects and lead transformation efforts
Handle questions/escalations from the FP&A, senior financial leaders and business as it relates to client/product P&Ls
Develop analytics at an enterprise and legal entity level
Able to gather relevant data points to present to management to aid in decision making/reporting
Collaborates with the other finance department directors to support overall department goals and objectives
Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff
Resource management related to both onshore and offshore teams
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
Responsibility for the work of others
Responsible for the work of 3 managers
Travel up to 5%
What are the requirements needed for this position?
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience in a reinsurance function or equivalent experience
Detailed knowledge of reinsurance including underwriting, claims, accounting, finance and associated process, controls and systems
Detailed knowledge of accounting principles, practices, the insurance/reinsurance markets, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
Strong verbal and written communication skills with significant experience interacting with senior management and external stakeholders
Strong negotiation, analytical, decision making, problem resolution and organizational skills
Process transformation and control improvement experience
What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or MBA
Able to thrive in a fast pace environment
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem solving skill
Accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organizational skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups
Able to work independently
Able to adapt to a flexible work environment
Team player who is willing to go outside defined roles and responsibilities for the benefit of the broader team
Pay Range:
$99,200.00 - $165,600.00Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
