Co-op Cycle: July 6th to December 18th 

Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

We are searching for our next group of engineering co-ops for a 6-month assignment at our Beverly, MA, facility. Our co-op program is designed to develop earlycareer talent and build a strong pipeline of future engineers. Students gain hands-on exposure, work on real projects, and make meaningful contributions. Throughout the program, co-ops build technical skills, strengthen problem-solving abilities, and gain real-world experience that enhances both their academic learning and future career opportunities. 

 

About the Role 

As a Manufacturing Test Development Engineer Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting test equipment used in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to help ensure products meet quality, performance, and reliability standards. This role provides exposure to real-world engineering challenges, including the design, development, and validation of electrical and mechanical test solutions, fixture design, and hardware-level debugging of test systems. Through this experience, you will develop practical engineering skills, learn how testing integrates into large-scale manufacturing, and contribute directly to improving efficiency and product quality. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Design, develop, build, validate, and maintain electrical and mechanical manufacturing test solutions, including automated test equipment and custom test fixtures 

  • Leverage manual, subtractive, and additive manufacturing tools and techniques to meet fixture design and performance requirements 

  • Collaborate with teammates across engineering disciplines, relying on their diverse skill sets to accomplish shared project goals 

  • Analyze test data to identify failure modes, root causes, and process variations 

  • Perform hardware-level debugging of test systems, including instrumentation and interfaces 

  • Collaborate with manufacturing, design, process, and quality engineering teams to meet fixture design requirements of all shareholders 

  • Create and maintain detailed test documentation, procedures, and reports 

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase test coverage, throughput, and repeatability 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Applicants must be candidates for a Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following fields: Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar programs. 

  • Familiarity with modeling software such as SolidWorks/Creo or AutoCAD 

  • Familiarity with schematic and PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCad, QElectroTech 

  • Familiarity with fabrication tools such as calipers, hand tools, 3d printing, etc. 

  • Familiarity with measurement tools and equipment such as DMM’s, Oscilloscopes, Data acquisition systems (DAQ), etc. 

  • Experience with project management tools such as Gantt charts, Microsoft Project/Planner, etc.

Commute Information: 

To support students commuting to our facility, Axcelis provides a $1,000 travel stipend, paid as a lump-sum in the first paycheck. U.S. BASE SALARY RANGE

$20.42 - $35.70

This base salary range reflects the typical compensation for this role across U.S. locations.

Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on

multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work

location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as

you develop within the role.

Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the

Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular

employees working 20+ hours a week).
