The Aerospace Corporation is hiring an Undergraduate Dynamic Environments Intern.

The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly, integration, and test; and operational support. Comprised primarily of highly-trained mechanical and aerospace engineers, VSD provides national expertise in the areas of vehicle engineering; guidance, navigation, and controls; robotics; electro-mechanical devices; embedded systems; fluid mechanics; propulsion; thermal control; orbital mechanics; mechanisms; structures; structural dynamics; and dynamic environments.  

The Vehicle Shock and Vibration Section provides technical expertise in the field of dynamic environments to a wide variety of launch and space programs in the defense and civil sectors. We specialize in test support and hardware issue disposition, standards tailoring, technical risk assessments, review and independent generation of environmental design criteria, time and frequency domain signal analysis, and vibroacoustic analysis.

Work Model

This position will be located 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA

What You’ll Be Doing [5-7 bullets recommended] 

  • Performing studies in the field of vibration, shock, and acoustics in support of launch and space certification programs and internal research projects

  • Building test- and flight-correlated models that contribute to technical assessments across multiple programs

  • Maintaining and advance signal processing capabilities for rapid analysis of ground test and flight data

  • Investigating industry analysis methods to communicate and advance current state of the art

  • Using commercial tools and develop independent simulation tools to solve problems in vibration, shock, and acoustics

  • Collaborating with Propulsion, Fluids, Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Mechanical Systems departments on technical assessments and analysis

  • Training and mentorship will be provided

What You Need to be Successful 

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Bachelor's degree in [Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer  Science] or related discipline  

  • Junior class standing completed by internship start date 

  • Coursework relevant to concepts in one or more of the following: vibration, acoustics, structural dynamics, structural mechanics, turbomachinery, finite element theory, statistics

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0  

  • Experience in data processing and spectral analysis of dynamic signals

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. 

  • Transcripts required

How You Can Stand Out 

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher 

  • Active security clearance 

  • Experience in commercial vibroacoustic tools, such as Wave6, VA One, FEMAP, Hypermesh

  • Experience in wave domain or energy-based analytical solutions to vibration, shock, and acoustics problems

  • Experience in dynamic environments testing and instrumentation selection/setup

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business.  The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below.  Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
