One of the key roles we are looking for is a Sr. Data Architect, who will be hands-on, provide technical thought leadership to our teams, and help architect, design, build, tune and efficiently operate our data platform at scale, to keep pace with the ever-evolving data and API product roadmaps that supports all the modern/strategic initiatives at CDK. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate well with necessary stakeholders to ensure thorough understanding of the business requirements, both functional and non-functional, and architect solutions that will effectively and efficiently solve for the needs, spanning a multitude of use cases across Data Warehousing, APIs, Reporting / Analytics, Data Science / Machine Learning
  • Design, Build, Implement, Continually Assess and Optimize data platform including pipelines / databases / data warehouses / lakes, ensuring data integrity and consistency, efficient data processing, enhancing system performance / resiliency / scalability, improving cost effectiveness, maintaining and improving data security
  • Design and Build curated data models which will be used by data consumers to address business questions today and in the future, ensuring the data model is extensible, flexible and scalable
  • Work across the product organizations to develop fit for purpose data architecture for different use cases
  • Collaborate with our customer team to ensure the architecture supports the deployability and serviceability of data and API products built on our data platform
  • Champion and Ensure data security and compliance with data protection regulations. Define and implement best practices for data access controls and encryption
  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of migrating existing in-house data platforms to cloud, ensuring minimal disruption, data integrity and relevant SLAs / SLOs
  • Collaborate with the Data Governance team to develop strategies for MDM including data profiling, data cleansing, data standardization, data quality management practices to monitor and improve data quality, and ensure consistent and accurate master data
  • Leverage automation and tools to streamline data operations and make them scalable to accommodate growing data volumes and user traffic
  • Measure, monitor, tune, optimize and proactively improve / ensure:
    • Data quality, freshness, lineage, security, auditing and discoverability
    • High availability / resiliency, performance, reachability and overall system health
    • Overall operating costs
  • Expertly troubleshoot issues with distributed systems, interactions between cloud technology layers and components, common dependencies at scale
  • Practice sustainable incident response, blameless postmortems, root cause elimination to prevent recurrence and continuous improvement of efficiencies, effectiveness, scale and performance
  • Define, Maintain and Champion the best practices and standards to build / maintain / leverage the data platform and craft enterprise grade solutions, with all the teams across the portfolio
  • Embrace and champion engineering excellence, earnestly participate in peer reviews, effectively and efficiently reduce technical debt, improve code quality, supportability, and overall expendability
  • Embrace and Champion operational excellence and a DevSecOps culture leveraging IaC, CI/CD, End-to-End Observability and Proactive Capacity Management, collaborating well with product, infrastructure and customer teams
  • Research, evaluate, identify alternative approaches, recommend, design and code efficient and effective solutions for challenging problems ranging from small to large work efforts for low to high complexity problems
  • Proactively Identify and Champion opportunities in processes, system capabilities and delivery methodologies for continuous improvement as applicable to improve operational maturity
  • Research and maintain an awareness in industry trends, advances in distributed systems and cloud technologies, tools, and/or processes for maintaining and improving data quality, freshness, security, traceability, availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, with 12+ years of relevant experience with large-scale enterprise-grade solutions
  • Demonstrated experience setting up stable, scalable frameworks
  • Proven experience as a Data Architect
  • 8+ years of experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above, including event driven architectures, cloud native, distributed / SaaS solutions, data-intensive applications, and data platforms
  • 6+ years of experience with ensuring data quality, proactive monitoring, smart alerting, ensuring performance / scalability and proactive capacity management of enterprise-grade solutions
  • Expertise in data technologies, such as relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server), cloud data lakes / warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), data pipelining (e.g., Spark), data streaming (e.g., Kafka), and cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure)
  • Strong understanding of data modeling techniques and experience in designing scalable data models for cloud data warehouses
  • Strong programming skills in languages like Python, with experience in data processing, automation and scripting
  • Expertise with advanced analytical SQL, PL/SQL and tuning
  • Experience with data governance, data security, and compliance best practices
  • Expertise with troubleshooting distributed pipelines and platforms
  • Expertise with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • A level of comfort with Linux
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience migrating large-scale on-prem data to cloud
  • Experience with data cataloging (e.g., Alation, Collibra)
  • Experience with programming languages like Java
  • Experience with Databricks
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as code
  • Knowledge of AI and ML tools
  • Any Data Engineer certifications
  • Automotive retail experience

Compensation: $190,000 - $240,000
