Safely operate equipment involved in the packaging of finished products and assist Operators, Crew Leaders, Lead
Operators, Contract Formulators, Site Support Services, and Material Handlers.
Responsibilities:
• Production: Operate equipment involved in the packaging of finished products. Obtain and/or make up containers, clean, label, fill, seal, palletize, and stretch-wrap according to established procedures.
Complete all necessary paperwork. Shovel snow from building entrances, roofs, from around railroad switches and firehouses. Clean plant areas as instructed by supervision. Assist Crew Leaders, Lead Operators, Operators, Contract Formulators, Site Support Services and Material Handlers in the startup
and shutdown of production operations and report any problems and downtime to supervisor. Packers work inside and outside the plant Production, Stores and Warehouse buildings. Other work locations include railcars and trailer trucks and their respective loading and unloading stations. Packers will
sometimes be required to climb ladders and stairs and perform work in and on elevated areas such as roofs and dust collectors. Some areas will be noisy and may include various inclement temperatures and weather conditions. Stooping, bending and heavy lifting are involved in all areas. Duties performed in
operating areas will require working with toxic and hazardous chemicals around moving machinery.
• Equipment:
o Job Related Equipment: Screw conveyor, blenders, storage vessels, pumps, mills, fork trucks, packaging equipment, washing equipment, cleaning utensils, dust houses, filters, sealers, scales, invert-a-bins, manual and power operated overhead lifting devices, and many others.
o Safety Equipment: Respirators, gloves, coveralls, hard hats, barrier suits, aprons, goggles, etc.
Refer to appropriate Safety Procedure.
• Safety and Health: Packers are required to work safely, follow all safety rules and procedures, attend monthly safety meetings, report unsafe conditions to supervisors at once, and keep all tools and equipment in safe working condition. They will also be encouraged to read and ask questions about safety materials such as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Job Safety Information (JSI), and know where to find them. Additionally, Packers will need to maintain clean and orderly work areas and offer suggestions and seek answers concerning safety issues.
• Environment: Report and conditions, no matter how minor, that could damage the environmental controls and perform job duties in a manner that will minimize waste.
Payrate: $22.09 per hour
