Job Description: Head Coach
Hours: Full Time or Part Time (based on candidate availability and experience)
Reports to: General Manager
HEAD COACH
The Head Coach at Bouldering Project will play a pivotal role in driving the competitive success and growth of both youth and adult climbing teams. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, engagement, and connection, introducing individuals to climbing, and supporting their lifelong competitive climbing journey in a healthy, sustainable, and enjoyable manner. Collaborating with the Programs Manager, setting team, and other coaching staff, the Head Coach will build and facilitate team programs and practices aimed at supporting climbers in their athletic development and competitive aspirations. This role is ideal for a coach who is passionate about cultivating top-tier talent, pushing athletes to reach their highest potential, and achieving outstanding results in competitive climbing.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Design, develop, and implement comprehensive climbing programs catering to climbers of varying skill levels, including recreational and competitive youth.
- Provide expert instruction in climbing techniques, safety practices, and training methodologies to individuals and groups.
- Incentivized to grow the competitive team program in terms of numbers of athletes and in terms of competitive success on a yearly basis.
- Lead youth climbing team tryouts, weekly youth team practices, and mock competitions as appropriate.
- Travel as needed to coach at youth climbing competitions.
- Supervise climbers during practices and competitions while modeling BP values and appropriate support and motivation.
- Provide personalized coaching and feedback to each climber to help them overcome challenges, improve weaknesses, and achieve their climbing goals.
- Actively respond to customer needs, membership and event questions, inquiries, and feedback.
- Work collaboratively with other coaches and managers to ensure program coherence and alignment with the facility's goals and objectives.
- Route Setting work may be required to create a full time Head Coach position
- Collaborate with the General Manager to create and maintain a departmental budget
- Create and maintain the Coaching schedule
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Available to work evenings and weekends to travel to competitions.
- Technical proficiency in climbing in a variety of competition styles.
- Previous experience as a routesetter is preferred.
- Previous experience as a climbing coach.
- Previous experience as a competition climber is preferred.
- Head Coach experience preferred.
- First AID/CPR certification preferred.
FACILITY SAFETY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE
- Ensure the safety of participants, staff and other customers through group organization, oversight, and practice planning.
- Actively promote risk mitigation through ongoing instruction and orientation.
- Respond to accidents and incidents following the BP Safety Manual and Protocol and properly document any incidents through incident report log.

WORKING CONDITIONS
