We are looking for a highly motivated and curious AI Intern to join our AI team.  In this role, you will work alongside senior AI Engineers and Data Scientists to design, test, and deploy AI-driven features that solve real-world problems. This is a hands-on opportunity to move beyond theory and see how AI is integrated into production-level products. You will gain experience with cutting-edge technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic frameworks, and data pipelines while receiving mentorship from industry experts.

This role is hybrid (Mon through Thu on-site / Fri remote) at the UMB Technology & Operations Center located in downtown Kansas City, MO.

How you will spend your time:

  • Model Development & Testing: Assist in building, training, and evaluating machine learning and deep learning models to improve product functionality.
  • Generative AI Exploration: Experiment with LLMs, prompt engineering, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines to enhance automation and user experience.
  • Data Engineering: Support data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing efforts to ensure high-quality datasets for model training.
  • Prototyping: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and iterate on AI-powered prototypes and internal tools.
  • Research & Documentation: Stay updated on the latest AI trends and research papers, documenting experimental results and contributing to technical reports.
  • Deployment Support: Help integrate AI models into existing software architectures and assist in monitoring their performance in real-world scenarios.

We are excited to talk if you have:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or a related technical field.

Bonus Points if you have:

  • Experience with GenAI tools like LangChain, LangGraph, or vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate).
  • Prior experience with APIs (FastAPI/REST) and version control systems like Git.
  • A portfolio of personal AI/ML projects or contributions to open-source communities.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
