Buyer-Defense Electonics-Onsite Position

We are looking for a Buyer to join our world-class manufacturing and design facility in Ottawa, Ontario!

As our Buyer your position within the Supply Chain function that requires an individual who is experienced with defense electronic products and has a thorough understanding of defense procurement and processes. This is a tactical role that bridges supplier relationship and procurement needs based on MRP requirements to support the business. The role requires close networking with Planning, Purchasing, Program Management and Production teams as well as a solid understanding of the activities required to meet forecast commits and internal requirements.

Your Challenge:

  • Responsible for the purchasing and management of commodities in order to support Curtiss-Wright supply chain.

  • Drive supplier performance improvement as measured on scorecards, and actively manage supplier quality issues through a thorough root cause and corrective action methodology.

  • Participate in supplier calls within a team or independently, update ERP delivery commitments in coordination from Planning.

  • Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships while measuring and reporting on supplier performance trends and opportunities.

  • Coordinate, review and manage supplier open order reports to expedite and escalation priority lists for key suppliers.

  • Timely reporting of critical topics, supplied shortages, updates via verbal communication, e-mail communication and ERP data updating for integrity maintenance.

  • Coordinate with the internal departments to ensure appropriate updates are available when needed.

  • Participate in project meetings to provide updates and status of orders to the respective program managers and other internal customers.

  • Identify and escalate ongoing supplier issues with Management as appropriate.

  • Provide support to Procurement and Planning with supporting documentation as required.

  • Manage functions such as material reservations, master data maintenance, review lead times and safety stock settings, stock transfer requests and non-production procurement requests.

  • Ensuring material receipts support the business requirements while optimizing inventory levels vs. material costs.

  • Lead process changes and improvements in alignment with best purchasing practices including documentation, implementation, compliance, and KPI implementation.

  • Lead and participate and drive negotiations to ensure improvements in purchase price variances to standard for direct spend items, and indirect spend item cost reductions.

  • Ensure flow down of contractual requirements such as special processes, FAI, DPAS rating, etc.

  • Manage ERP procurement exceptions (planned early and late receipts) to minimize disconnects.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply chain or Finance (preferred).

  • Requires 5 years of related experience.

  • Experience with Electronics, Machining, and knowledge of PWB/ PCB’s (preferred).

  • Knowledge and experience with AS9100 requirements.

  • High level of understanding of material and planning processes.

  • Experience in working with SAP (preferred).

  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suit (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Effective communicator, strong customer focus and ability to work effectively to meet deadlines in a team environment.
