Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems located in Palmdale, CA has an opening for a Materials and Process Engineer or Principal Materials and Process Engineer.  The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.  

The work schedule for this position is 3/10 (Friday-Sunday), 1st Shift
 
Essential Functions:

  • Work in a high paced team environment to support program goals and schedules

  • Develop solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives.

  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to investigate material issues and provide solutions.

  • Be responsible for new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, and drawing reviews.

  • Perform detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans in a team environment with other engineering organization.

  • Evaluation of as built products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.

  • Coordination and clear communication with other disciplines during the development of design solutions. 

  • Concise presentation and explanation of materials and process issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.

Note: This position can be filled at an Engineer Materials and Process / Principal Engineer Materials and Process level.

Basic Qualifications for an Engineer Materials and Process:

  • Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 2 years of relevant industry experience or 0 years' experience with a Master's STEM degree

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance is required

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for composite structures.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer Materials and Process:

  • Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 5 years of relevant industry experience or 3 years' experience with a Master's STEM degree or 0 years' experience with a PhD

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance is required

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Active In Scope Secret or Top Secret clearance (last investigation within 5 years).

  • Experience working on Special Access Programs.

  • Experience working on military aircraft.

Salary Range: $87,200.00 - $130,800.00Salary Range 2: $107,300.00 - $160,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
