Position Overview
The Engineering and Robotics Laboratory Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the engineering and robotics labs. The role involves preparing lab materials, maintaining equipment, assisting students with laboratory activities, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. This position requires hands-on technical skills, organizational abilities, and the ability to assist faculty and students.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Support:

  • Prepare and organize materials, tools, and equipment for lab exercises.
  • Assist faculty during laboratory sessions by guiding students and demonstrating proper equipment use.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on lab equipment, including robotics, testing apparatus, and electrical tools.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain an orderly lab environment.

Student Assistance:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students in understanding and applying lab concepts.
  • Answer technical questions and assist with coursework as defined by faculty.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and manage inventory of lab supplies and materials.
  • Submit requests for new materials or repairs as necessary.

Technical Expertise:

  • Set up and operate FANUC robotics equipment for handling tool and operations labs.
  • Assist with ASTM testing procedures and data analysis.
  • Support SolidWorks design and simulation tasks in the lab.
  • Provide insights into statics, strength of materials, and electricity fundamentals during lab activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical knowledge of:
    • Statics and strength of materials principles.
    • ASTM testing procedures and data collection.
    • SolidWorks design software.
    • Electricity fundamentals, including circuit analysis and low voltage wiring.
    • FANUC robotics handling tool and operations.
  • Hands-on experience in an academic or professional engineering/robotics environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards.

Work Schedule

  • 20 hours per week, with flexibility based on lab schedules and academic needs.
