Job Description:

Sun Life Retail Advice & Solutions (RA&S) is one of Canada’s leading financial institutions that offers Canadians holistic advice and innovative solutions spanning insurance, health, and wealth through a continuum of digital-first hybrid advice, proprietary career, and independent sales channels. Within RA&S, Insurance Solutions is responsible for designing and distributing leading-edge life and health insurance products to over 2 million individual retail clients across Canada.

Reporting to the Director, Innovation & Strategy, the Innovation Manager will drive initiatives to continuously launch and test new & innovative ideas, platforms, and solutions. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for taking new ideas from ideation all the way to operationalization across the organization. This role requires strategic thinkers with a passion for identifying innovative ways to solve client / advisor problems balanced with finding viable business opportunities that will have an impact, effective communicators with a strong product ownership mindset, and team players that love to be part of fast-paced teams that can quickly foster relationships with peers in the organization.

What will you do?

  • Innovation Initiative Ownership – execute on innovation initiatives from concept ideation to validation and implementation, including client / advisor research, business casing, build, go-to-market, and value realization
  • Client / Advisor Research – conduct both qualitative and quantitative research & explore industry and market trends, competitor actions, etc. and bring forward the Voice of the Client and Voice of the Advisor. Leverage and champion design-thinking best practices to build creative solutions through empathy-driven, human-centered design
  • Data-Driven Analysis – analyze both internal and external data to identify trends and opportunities, develop innovations that increase revenue, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance the client / advisor experience
  • Cross-Team Collaboration – facilitate cross-functional teams with conviction, discipline and strong communication to drive towards clear decisions and recommendations
  • Communication – synthesize and present findings in a compelling manner to make the business case for pursuing new innovation opportunities; adapting communication and presentations to meet the unique needs of different audiences

What you need to succeed?

  • ‘Get stuff done’ in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment
  • Strong quantitative skills including data interpretation and information visualization
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills with track record of working directly with senior leadership
  • Self-motivated, able to work both autonomously and collaboratively with multi-functional teams, managing diverse and evolving priorities
  • Experience with client research methodologies including design thinking, survey design and execution, and focus-group facilitation
  • Strong relationship management skills – ability to partner with key stakeholders and functional areas across the organization
  • Agent of change – ability to embrace, adapt, and drive change as required to ensure business objectives are met
  • Experience with financial analysis and business case building

What will be nice to have?

Experience in life insurance/wealth management, or other financial services industry (e.g., retail banking, credit card, property and casualty insurance)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
