Position Summary

The Head of Media has overall responsibility for Samsung Electronics UK (SEUK) media investment across MX and CE, coordinating media strategy, media planning, best in class execution, media buying, measurement and effectiveness!

The role sits within the MX division and on the MX Marketing LT, reporting into the VP MX Product and Marketing UK & Ireland, but also supports across the wider business with paid media best practise.

Last year, SEUK invested over £100M+ into paid media to drive demand for Samsung’s brand and products, and convert that demand into sales. You will beresponsible for ensuring that all media planning is grounded in consumer insight and aligned to evolving audience behaviours; for developing and implementing a full funnel media strategy that drives the business forwards through brand metrics and sales performance; and for continuous improvement in Samsung’s ability to measure the impact of paid media plans on audiences.

With a deep understanding of the effective use of all paid media channels including AV, Audio, OOH, Print, Display, Social, Search, Partnerships and Sponsorships, the Head of Media ensures every pound is invested efficiently to drive impact and outcomes.

Role and Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities

This role is critical to the development and delivery of all ATL plans. It involves the direct leadership of a lean internal media team, and the indirect leadership of 80+ people in our media agency.

Media Strategy & Planning

  • Development and delivery of SEUK’s media planning and investment strategy across upwards of 60 campaigns per year, to align with and deliver on SEUK commercial priorities

  • Develop annual planning principles across all media channels to guide media behaviour and investment

  • Lead a quarterly media planning process for MX, with consultation on half yearly planning across CE

  • Drive forwards thought leadership and foster innovation, from big high impact ideas to tactical improvements, always looking for the never been done before wins

  • Develop full funnel media plans across brand campaigns, product launches and sustain campaigns, that deliver on Awareness, Consideration and Purchase Intent targets

  • Ensure all media planning is based on data, insight, and findings

Media Effectiveness

  • In consultation with CMI, develop effective critical metric frameworks, set targets, put in place measurement plans and tests to improve measurability, and maximise media effectiveness and efficiency

  • Use of a range of data capabilities to improve targeting and media deployment

  • Ensure robust reporting to allow in flight optimisations as well as bring together findings

  • Ensure media buying targets and savings targets are set and delivered, budgets are invested for maximum return, and oversee third party media audits to verify targets and seek continuous improvement

  • Drive a learning culture within the Media team, to enable media planning and buying following evidence-based thinking

  • Collaborate with Omni Channel Marketing colleagues to deliver co-marketing plans that drive sales through channel partners

  • Closely collaborate with internal teams including DTC, Social and PR to ensure 360 campaign success

Agency Management & Team Leadership

  • Lead the media agency relationship to ensure the account is properly resourced and scopes are met, in line with commercial contracts

  • Inspire our media agencies to deliver best in class media strategy, planning and innovation, foster excellent working relationships for the best campaign outcomes and to retain the best agency talent

  • Lead an internal media team of Senior Managers, to establish best practise and maintain high standards of media planning

  • Motivate and develop the team to deliver best results

  • Share inspiration and learnings across the whole marketing team

Senior Collaborator Management

  • Develop evidence based arguments to secure media investment from the Leadership Team to support SEUK’s commercial goals

  • Present media plans and results to senior collaborators, with concise and considered recommendations for future investment

  • Develop excellent relationships with Global media counterparts within Samsung’s Suwon Office (HQ), maintaining SEUK’s reputation as an advanced media market

  • Ensure the delivery of Global KPIs and efficient and effective reporting

  • Develop strong relationships with media owners partners and platforms in the UK, to ensure best access to innovation, beta tests, SVAs and great collaborations

  • Be the lead media expert within SEUK

Your key people management responsibilities

  • Provide clarity on strategy, team purpose & value and define the key areas of focus and direction.

  • Support the development of your team through regular mentoring, coaching and feedback, 1:1s and on the job learning opportunities.

  • Role model inclusion for your team to build trust and psychological safety.

  • Ensure communication with your team is a core focus area including cascade of information from LT’s and relevant business updates.

  • Manage the on boarding, off boarding process and the entirety of the colleague lifecycle process for all team members.

  • Manage all annual people management cycles such as goal setting, evaluation and salary reviews to a high quality and in a timely manner.

  • To be accountable for ensuring your team are compliant with company processes and procedures; such as compliance, meeting mandatory business cyclical deadlines, and understanding the company values.

What we need for this role

To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:

·Media fluency - extensive knowledge and experience of paid media and digital functions, working on large brands with significant budgets

·Consumer-focus - be ahead of trends and changes in the consumer and media landscape

·Market knowledge - understanding of consumer electronics / technology landscape

·Passion for great ideas – a strong record of driving innovation and creativity in media

·Highly skilled with numbers - a strong grasp of using data to achieve marketing success, and measuring the critical metrics that are important

·Data driven – and detail oriented, able to present data in the right way to influence decision making

·Project management - capable of delivering multiple projects and workstreams, managing budgets, working in and leading cross functional teams

·People management - able to effectively manage agencies and to work in large cross functional teams, at pace

This role requires someone with extensive media agency or client side experience to be the trusted voice of media within SEUK and a strong media leader. You will be passionate about media planning and execution, and strive for excellence in all you do.

The ability to thrive in a fast paced and matrixed organisation is key to success, as well as experience in managing complex projects and getting the best out of agency relationships.

Driving operational excellence and innovation for Samsung will be key to delivering successful product campaigns, as well being a strong communicator and influencer who can make the case for investment in media and share the results of that investment with senior stakeholders.
