Location: Flexible within Anglian Water region, must have ability to work out of Worldwide House, Peterborough, two days per week.

Are you a scientifically driven professional with a passion for water quality and public health? Do you want to play a key role in shaping the future of water resources in the UK? If so, Anglian Water has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Strategic Resource Scientist.

About the Role

As a Strategic Resource Scientist, you’ll provide expert technical support on all water quality aspects of our Strategic Resource Options (SROs), WRMP24, and PR24 programmes. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring our water quality strategies align with the Drinking Water Safety Planning (DWSP) approach and regulatory expectations, particularly through the RAPID process.

You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to manage water quality monitoring plans, interpret sample data, and contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies that protect public health and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide water quality expertise for the Fens and Lincs proposed new reservoirs,  and future WRMP, and PR24 development.
  • Manage and interpret water quality monitoring data for project reporting and regulatory reporting.
  • Develop the DWSP’s for the reservoirs collaboratively with the project teams and external stakeholders, aligned to regulatory expectations.
  • Develop the water quality section for all gateway submissions. 
  • Support the development of the reservoir treatment design based upon the water quality-sample results and our treatment performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners including DWI, consultants, and other water companies.
  • Contribute to strategic documents and stakeholder engagement activities.

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong knowledge of Regulation 27 and 28 and Anglian Waters company reporting process, and the regulatory requirements of DWSP.
  • Proven experience in water process science, treatment, and distribution.
  • Drinking water safety planning experience.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
  • A strategic mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant scientific field.
  • Chartered membership of a professional body (or working towards it).
