Summary:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager directs the organization's safety, environmental, and health programs to protect employees' safety, minimize environmental impacts, and reduce risk and liability for the company. This position also ensures compliance with federal and state safety, environmental, and safety regulations.  The EH&S Manager is responsible for providing and promoting environmental health and safety leadership in education, engineering, behavior, culture, and performance through employee engagement and accountability. Act as a change agent committed to accelerating process improvements within the EH&S program to support the employees and business in achieving its objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Overall responsibility for developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures for all functions within STC.  
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and advises the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) of emerging environmental health, safety, and welfare legislation.
  • Maintain all required environmental, health, and safety record-keeping required by federal, state, local, and/or STC.
  • Manage campus wide service contracts regarding safety, environmental, and industrial hygiene. 
  • Maintains STC’s EH&S related statistics and metrics, providing analysis of the data for process improvements.
  • Manages and prioritizes L2L’s safety and health tickets 
  • Review needs, implement, and manage plans and programs that drive employee engagement and positive safety culture across the organization.
  • Maintains STC’s emergency management program, including fulfilling the role of the first point of contact during an emergency event. 
  • Manages weekly management safety/quality floor audits and inspections, which includes reporting and educating.  
  • Develop and implement operational safety performance criteria, including supervisory performance metrics focused on incident and injury reduction and safety culture/best practices implementation. 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, environmental, engineering, or related field preferred. 
  • 2-5 years of experience leading and improving safety performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Must have a working knowledge of OSHA and other federal and state safety regulations.
  • Must have prior experience in developing, managing, and facilitating safety programs
  • Experience leading incident investigations while determining root causes and identifying opportunities to improve and prevention measures.
  • Must possess good, proven hazard and risk recognition and mitigation skills.
  • This position requires speaking to, influencing, and motivating both large and small groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong, clear, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management and leadership skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed on site at STC’s office in St. Albans, Vermont and remotely for CA.  Travel to CA will be required a few times a year.  Work hours will vary depending on production needs. Some work is generally performed on the shop floor, which can be noisy and dusty, as well as hot during the summer.  Proper safety equipment is provided by STC where necessary.  Desk work is performed in a climate-controlled environment. 

Physical Demands:

Work involves standing and walking on cement floors throughout the day.  Some desk time working at the computer can be expected, but the emphasis will be on walking the floor to ensure EH&S standards are maintained and questions from employees can readily be answered. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels.
