The Field Service Technician (FST) is an onsite position dedicated to the office and customers located in the Sarasota/Manatee County, FL area. The FST MUST reside near Sarasota/Manatee County, FL to be available for 24/7 rotation of support 365 days of the year.


Job Description

  • Responsibilities include optimization and support of complex mission critical communication systems and subscriber radio programming.

  • Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications including troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25, data infrastructure and subscriber radio programming.

  • Program, configure, optimize, test and document complex communications systems, as well as, subscriber radios.

  • Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results

  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system implementation, upgrades or support issues.

  • Continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Team with Engineering, Project Management and Sales personnel to effectively design, implement, optimize, and cutover advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations.

  • Work with local and remote teams to accomplish complex tasks for mission critical communications.

  • Must be able to work on-call with the local team(s) on rotation, for after hours support and storm response. 

  • Deliver strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), must have an understanding of computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and endpoint devices.

  • Install server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshoot to resolve system/application related issues.

  • Provide extensive knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.

  • Deliver expert knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, as well as knowledge of packet switching techniques.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.

  • Must have a current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Google Workspace applications.

  • Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams.

  • Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.

  • Able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.

  • ETA International CETa, or the ability to acquire CETa within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

  • Motorola Subscribers

  • Juniper networks (JNCIA preferred but not required)

  • Nokia MPLS, CompTIA Network +, or CompTIA Security +

  • ETA CETa or better

  • Motorola R56 Installer

  • Knowledge of Firewalls, MPLS, and OSI model

  • Knowledge of server hardware, virtual machines, Microsoft and Linux based servers

Basic Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Frequency, Subscribers, Radio Communications, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Networking Equipment, Motorola equipment, Military experience or IT

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.
