JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager, this position performs routine medical assistant functions as well as other required tasks. Under the supervision of the DTC Clinical staff Medical Assistant will perform venipuncture and finger blood, including drawing, capping, and labeling of blood specimens, as well as performing EKGs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all routine medical assistant functions with consistency, according to policy/best practice and expected service standards, while adhering to the participants’ right for privacy and dignity
Consistently and accurately takes and documents in the EMR participant’s blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.
Draws blood and collects specimens according to Infection Control protocols, per MD order and consistent with all other established policies/best practices.
Processes specimens according to policy in preparation for pick-up
Identifies specimen correctly
Matches request form with specimen
Appropriately centrifuges specimens if required
Refrigerates specimen according to policy/acceptable practice
Accurately and without delay orders laboratory tests as per physician’s written orders
Tracks test results
Informs physician in writing of canceled lab tests
Schedules Home Draw Labs
Obtains applicable reports on an ongoing basis via software
Consistently tracks lab supply inventory and orders supplies as necessary while at all timed adhering to the approval process
At all times, fully stocks examination offices with all required medical supplies.
Performs EKGs according to policy/best practice and expected service standards while always adhering to participants’ rights.
Performs routine tests such as dipstick, blood finger stick glucose, and INR according to policy/best practice and expected service standards while always adhering to participants’ rights.
At all times, provides services according to established safety procedures and infection control standards as per OSHA and CLHC Health Services policy and procedure and provides services with due regard for the health, safety, and well-being of the participant.
At all times, maintains strict confidentiality of any/all participant information.
Transports participants via wheelchair or accompanies ambulatory patients within the Pace Center to and from Diagnostic Treatment Center
Transfers and offers assistance during transferring of participants into and out of wheelchairs, toilets, beds, and other equipment (e.g., Hoyer lift)
Assist participants requiring help with toileting and other ADL care
Assist MD as requested, including translation and set up of equipment for examination and clean up when necessary
Understands that they are responsible for seeking feedback, instruction, and/or additional education with regard to any/all aspects of their job responsibilities that are not clear
Translate as needed
Assists with customer issues and grievances in a timely, accurate, and courteous manner. This includes working with the other departments to resolve the source of the problem(s).
Assist with the coordination of follow-up visits and transportation for participants coming into and departing from the medical practice
Provides coverage for the Front Desk Area as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Medical technician training. Vision screening training.
Experience: At least 1 year of venipuncture experience, preferably with the elderly population. Must be computer literate.
License/Registration: Medical Assistant Certification (must be certified Phlebotomist); EKG.
Other:

Physical Requirements
Individuals must be able to sustain certain physical requirements essential to the job. This includes, but is not limited to:
Standing – Duration of up to 6 hours a day.
Sitting/Stationary Positions – Sedentary position in duration of up to 6-8 hours a day for consecutive hours/periods.
Lifting/Push/Pull – Up to 50 pounds of equipment, baggage, supplies, and ability to lift patients safely and using OSHA guidelines, etc.
Bending/Squatting – Must be able to safely bend or squat to care for patients, use medical supplies, etc.
Stairs/Steps/Walking/Climbing – Must be able to safely maneuver stairs, climb up/down, and walk to access work areas Position requires the individual to be able to travel, and walk between sites/locations and work areas throughout the day.
Agility/Fine Motor Skills - Must demonstrate agility and fine motor skills to operate and activate equipment, devices, instruments, and tools (ie. typing, use of medical supplies, equipment, etc.)
Sight/Visual Requirements – Must be able to visually assess patients, read orders type/write documentation, etc. with accuracy.
Audio Hearing and Motor Skills (Language) Requirements – Must be able to listen attentively and document information from patients, community members, providers, etc., and intake information through audio processing with accuracy. In addition, must be able to speak comfortably and clearly with language motor skills for customers to understand the individual.
Cognitive Ability – Must be able to demonstrate good decision-making, reasonableness, cognitive ability, rational processing, and analysis to satisfy essential functions of the job.
