The Role

As the Data Management Director at Deliveroo, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, compliance and effective use of data across the organisation. You will be responsible for owning and executing on a comprehensive data management and governance strategy, which aligns with the company’s business objectives and with regulatory requirements. This role is crucial for mitigating risks, and ensuring great use of data across Deliveroo - including owning our company-wide strategy for data literacy, and being accountable for AI governance. This role will do this both directly, and through managing a team, which they will help build. 

You will report to the VP Science.

Current State

Deliveroo already has a very data-driven and reliant culture, so we see this role as a great way to turbocharge our effectiveness. We have frameworks and targets for Data Management, and are looking for a senior-level owner to progress our increased focus in this area, as we believe an even greater emphasis is a further strategic unlock.

What You'll Do

  • Own and evolve our data management framework to both mitigate risks and ensure we are using our data in the best possible way
  • Set out a clear target state for data management and governance and own the roadmap to achieve it, ensuring alignment with business-wide priorities, the Executive team, and the Board.
  • Own and manage the roadmap for data governance initiatives, addressing critical issues and ensuring compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as GDPR and the EU AI Act.
  • Engage with external parties, including regulatory bodies as needed, to ensure Deliveroo's data practices meet compliance standards.
  • Work closely with various teams across the company to ensure cohesive and comprehensive data governance practices, also representing data governance initiatives internally and externally, providing updates and insights to the Executive team, Board, and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Work closely with colleagues such as Privacy, DPO, and compliance

Requirements

  • Fluency in data management and data governance best practices, including familiarity with legal and regulatory compliance requirements related to data.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and leading data governance frameworks and strategies in a fast-paced tech environment.
  • Proven experience working in dynamic, rapidly evolving tech companies, with the ability to adapt to changing data schemas and business needs.
  • Strong technical acumen, with the capability to bridge the gap between legal/compliance requirements and technical implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive alignment on data governance priorities across various business units.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent data governance initiatives to senior leadership, the Board, and external parties.
  • Expertise in managing data-related risks and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Experience in engaging with external regulatory bodies and managing compliance-related communications.
