The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents.  We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential. We are seeking a collaborative bioinformatics and machine learning scientist to join the Computational Design and Predictive Modeling team in Cambridge, MA. You will develop novel bioinformatics and machine learning solutions and apply them to next-generation sequencing (NGS) data to discover and characterize biotherapeutics. You will partner with both computational and bench scientists to design experiments, analyze data, and implement computational models and bioinformatics pipelines. This role provides the opportunity to work with subject matter experts on cross-functional teams to solve challenging problems in how we discover and engineer the next generation of biotherapeutics. 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop computational models to analyze and characterize antibody repertoire sequencing data to deliver insights on antibody characteristics that improve lead identification. 

  • Implement and deploy high-throughput and scalable bioinformatics pipelines that will expedite biologics discovery and design. 

  • Communicate scientific findings to collaborators and other stakeholders, propose follow-up actions with measurable scientific outcomes. 

  • Partner with project teams to develop bioinformatics & machine learning solutions for novel biotherapeutics. 

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree 8+ years of academic / industry experience

or

Master's Degree 6+ years of academic / industry experience

or

PhD 4+ years of academic / industry experience

Preferred Qualifications 

  • PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or similar with 4+ years of relevant industry experience. 

  • In-depth experience analyzing NGS data including B-cell receptor and antibody repertoire sequencing data. 

  • In-depth understanding of antibody sequence and structure. 

  • Strong experience with commonly used bioinformatics methods and toolkits. 

  • Experience with state-of-the-art AI & ML methods applied to biological sequence data (DNA, protein) 

  • Hands-on experience with public omics, protein and immune repertoire datasets such as PDB, OAS, SAbDab. 

  • Strong experience with scientific programming languages (Python, R) and data science libraries. 

  • Proven track record of contributing to and helping advance multi-disciplinary team projects. 

  • Ability to independently conduct scientific research, develop hypotheses and deliver solutions. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and teamwork. 

  • Strong communication, documentation, data presentation, and visualization skills.
